Mahalaxmi Chalisa

जय जय श्री महालक्ष्मी,करूँ मात तव ध्यान। सिद्ध काज मम किजिये,निज शिशु सेवक जान॥

Jaya jaya shri Mahalakshmi, karu.n mata tava dhyana, siddha kaja mama kijiye, nija shishu sevaka jana.

Victory, victory, Shri Mahalakshmi, I hold you, Mother, in meditation; accomplish my task, knowing me as your own child and servant.

नमो महा लक्ष्मी जय माता।तेरो नाम जगत विख्याता॥

Namo maha Lakshmi jaya mata, tero nama jagata vikhyata.

Salutation to Mahalakshmi, victory to Mother; your name is renowned throughout the world.

आदि शक्ति हो मात भवानी।पूजत सब नर मुनि ज्ञानी॥

Adi shakti ho mata Bhavani, pujata saba nara muni j~nani.

You are the primal Shakti, Mother Bhavani; all men, sages and the wise worship you.

जगत पालिनी सब सुख करनी।निज जनहित भण्डारण भरनी॥

Jagata palini saba sukha karani, nija janahita bhandarana bharani.

Sustainer of the world, worker of all happiness; filling the treasury for your devotees' good.

श्वेत कमल दल पर तव आसन।मात सुशोभित है पद्मासन॥

Shveta Kamala dala para tava asana, mata sushobhita hai padmasana.

On a white lotus petal is your seat; Mother, gloriously seated in the lotus posture.

श्वेताम्बर अरू श्वेता भूषण।श्वेतही श्वेत सुसज्जित पुष्पन॥

Shvetambara aru shveta bhushana, shvetahi shveta susajjita pushpana.

Clad in white, adorned with white ornaments; decked entirely in white, radiant flowers.

शीश छत्र अति रूप विशाला।गल सोहे मुक्तन की माला॥

Shisha chatra ati rupa vishala, gala sohe muktana ki mala.

A crowning canopy of exceedingly beautiful form; a garland of pearls graces her neck.

सुंदर सोहे कुंचित केशा।विमल नयन अरु अनुपम भेषा॥

Sumdara sohe kumchita kesha, vimala nayana aru anupama bhesha.

Beautifully curled hair adorns her; clear eyes and an incomparable form.

कमलनाल समभुज तवचारि।सुरनर मुनिजनहित सुखकारी॥

Kamalanala samabhuja tavachari, suranara munijanahita sukhakari.

Your four arms are like lotus-stalks; a bringer of happiness to gods, men and sages alike.

अद्भूत छटा मात तव बानी।सकलविश्व कीन्हो सुखखानी॥

Adbhuta chata mata tava bani, sakalavishva kinho sukhakhani.

Wondrous is the brilliance of your speech, Mother; it has made the whole world a mine of joy.

शांतिस्वभाव मृदुलतव भवानी।सकल विश्वकी हो सुखखानी॥

Shamtisvabhava mrridulatava Bhavani, sakala vishvaki ho sukhakhani.

Of peaceful nature and gentle disposition, Bhavani; you are the very mine of happiness for the whole world.

महालक्ष्मी धन्य हो माई।पंच तत्व में सृष्टि रचाई॥

Mahalakshmi dhanya ho mai, pamcha tatva mem srrishti rachai.

Blessed are you, Mahalakshmi, O Mother; you fashioned creation out of the five elements.

जीव चराचर तुम उपजाए।पशु पक्षी नर नारी बनाए॥

Jiva charachara tuma upajae, pashu pakshi nara nari banae.

You brought forth all beings, moving and unmoving; you fashioned beasts, birds, men and women.

क्षितितल अगणित वृक्ष जमाए।अमितरंग फल फूल सुहाए॥

Kshititala aganita vrriksha jamae, amitaramga phala phula suhae.

On the surface of the earth you set countless trees, adorned with fruits and flowers of boundless colour.

छवि विलोक सुरमुनि नरनारी।करे सदा तव जय-जय कारी॥

Chavi viloka suramuni naranari, kare sada tava jaya-jaya kari.

Gods, sages, men and women behold your beauty; they forever cry victory, victory to you.

सुरपति औ नरपत सब ध्यावैं।तेरे सम्मुख शीश नवावैं॥

Surapati au narapata saba dhyavaim, tere sammukha shisha navavaim.

Lord of the gods and lord of men all meditate upon you; they bow their heads before you.

चारहु वेदन तब यश गाया।महिमा अगम पार नहिं पाये॥

Charahu vedana taba yasha gaya, mahima agama para nahim paye.

The four Vedas have sung your praise; your glory cannot be grasped, its end unreached.

जापर करहु मातु तुम दाया।सोइ जग में धन्य कहाया॥

Japara karahu matu tuma daya, soi jaga mem dhanya kahaya.

Upon whomever, Mother, you show compassion, that one alone is called blessed in this world.

पल में राजाहि रंक बनाओ।रंक राव कर बिमल न लाओ॥

Pala mem rajahi ramka banao, ramka rava kara bimala na lao.

In a moment you can turn a king into a pauper, or raise a pauper to a stainless king.

जिन घर करहु माततुम बासा।उनका यश हो विश्व प्रकाशा॥

Jina ghara karahu matatuma basa, unaka yasha ho vishva prakasha.

In whichever home you, Mother, take up residence, that family's fame illuminates the world.

जो ध्यावै से बहु सुख पावै।विमुख रहे हो दुख उठावै॥

Jo dhyavai se bahu sukha pavai, vimukha rahe ho dukha uthavai.

Whoever meditates upon you finds abundant happiness; whoever turns away endures sorrow.

महालक्ष्मी जन सुख दाई।ध्याऊं तुमको शीश नवाई॥

Mahalakshmi jana sukha dai, dhyaum tumako shisha navai.

Mahalakshmi, giver of joy to your devotees; I meditate upon you, bowing my head.

निज जन जानीमोहीं अपनाओ।सुखसम्पति दे दुख नसाओ॥

Nija jana janimohim apanao, sukhasampati de dukha nasao.

Knowing me as your own, accept me; give happiness and prosperity, and destroy my sorrow.

ॐ श्री-श्री जयसुखकी खानी।रिद्धिसिद्ध देउ मात जनजानी॥

Om shri-shri jayasukhaki khani, riddhisiddha deu mata janajani.

Om, Shri Shri, the mine of victory and joy; give Riddhi and Siddhi, Mother, knowing your own child.

ॐ ह्रीं-ॐ ह्रीं सब व्याधिहटाओ।जनउन विमल दृष्टिदर्शाओ॥

Om hrim-om hrim saba vyadhihatao, janauna vimala drrishtidarshao.

Om Hrim, Om Hrim, take away all illness; grant your devotees a vision unclouded.

ॐ क्लीं-ॐ क्लीं शत्रुन क्षयकीजै।जनहित मात अभय वरदीजै॥

Om klim-om klim shatruna kshayakijai, janahita mata abhaya varadijai.

Om Klim, Om Klim, destroy all enemies; grant your devotees the boon of fearlessness.

ॐ जयजयति जयजननी।सकल काज भक्तन के सरनी॥

Om jayajayati jayajanani, sakala kaja bhaktana ke sarani.

Om, victory, victory, victory to the world's mother; you are the refuge for every task of your devotees.

ॐ नमो-नमो भवनिधि तारनी।तरणि भंवर से पार उतारनी॥

Om namo-namo bhavanidhi tarani, tarani bhamvara se para utarani.

Om, salutation, salutation, ferrywoman across the ocean of existence; you carry across from the swirling whirlpool.

सुनहु मात यह विनय हमारी।पुरवहु आशन करहु अबारी॥

Sunahu mata yaha vinaya hamari, puravahu ashana karahu abari.

Hear, O Mother, this plea of ours; fulfill our hope, do not delay.

ऋणी दुखी जो तुमको ध्यावै।सो प्राणी सुख सम्पत्ति पावै॥

Rrini dukhi jo tumako dhyavai, so prani sukha sampatti pavai.

Whoever, indebted or sorrowing, meditates upon you, that soul obtains happiness and prosperity.

रोग ग्रसित जो ध्यावै कोई।ताकी निर्मल काया होई॥

Roga grasita jo dhyavai koi, taki nirmala kaya hoi.

Whoever, afflicted with illness, meditates upon you, their body becomes free of impurity.

विष्णु प्रिया जय-जय महारानी।महिमा अमित न जाय बखानी॥

Vishnu priya jaya-jaya maharani, mahima amita na jaya bakhani.

Beloved of Vishnu, victory, victory, great queen; your glory is boundless, none can describe it.

पुत्रहीन जो ध्यान लगावै।पाये सुत अतिहि हुलसावै॥

Putrahina jo dhyana lagavai, paye suta atihi hulasavai.

Whoever, childless, sets their meditation upon you, obtains a son and rejoices greatly.

त्राहि त्राहि शरणागत तेरी।करहु मात अब नेक न देरी॥

Trahi trahi sharanagata teri, karahu mata aba neka na deri.

Save me, save me, I have come to your refuge; show mercy now, Mother, without any delay.

आवहु मात विलम्ब न कीजै।हृदय निवास भक्त बर दीजै॥

Avahu mata vilamba na kijai, hrridaya nivasa bhakta bara dijai.

Come, Mother, without delay; grant your devotee a dwelling in your heart.

जानूं जप तप का नहिं भेवा।पार करो भवनिध वन खेवा॥

Janum japa tapa ka nahim bheva, para karo bhavanidha vana kheva.

I know nothing of the ways of chanting or austerity; carry me across the boat of worldly existence.

बिनवों बार-बार कर जोरी।पूरण आशा करहु अब मोरी॥

Binavom bara-bara kara jori, purana asha karahu aba mori.

I entreat again and again, hands folded; fulfill my hope now.

जानि दास मम संकट टारौ।सकल व्याधि से मोहिं उबारौ॥

Jani dasa mama samkata tarau, sakala vyadhi se mohim ubarau.

Knowing me your servant, remove my troubles; save me from every affliction.

जो तव सुरति रहै लव लाई।सो जग पावै सुयश बड़ाई॥

Jo tava surati rahai lava lai, so jaga pavai suyasha ba.dai.

Whoever keeps devotion to you close at heart, that one attains fine renown and glory in the world.

छायो यश तेरा संसारा।पावत शेष शम्भु नहिं पारा॥

Chayo yasha tera samsara, pavata shesha Shambhu nahim para.

Your fame has spread across the whole world; even Shesha and Shambhu cannot find its end.

गोविंद निशदिन शरण तिहारी।करहु पूरण अभिलाष हमारी॥

Govimda nishadina sharana tihari, karahu purana abhilasha hamari.

Govinda, day and night, is in your refuge; fulfill our heart's longing entirely.

महालक्ष्मी चालीसा,पढ़ै सुनै चित लाय। ताहि पदारथ मिलै,अब कहै वेद अस गाय॥

Mahalakshmi chalisa, pa.dhai sunai chita laya, tahi padaratha milai, aba kahai veda asa gaya.

Whoever reads or listens to this Mahalakshmi Chalisa with focused mind attains that treasure, as the Vedas themselves proclaim.
