Mahakali Mata Chalisa

जय जय सीताराम के,मध्यवासिनी अम्ब। देहु दर्श जगदम्ब,अब करो न मातु विलम्ब॥

Jaya jaya sitarama ke, madhyavasini Amba, dehu darsha Jagadamba, aba karo na matu vilamba.

Hail, hail, Mother who dwells between Sita and Ram; show Yourself, O Mother of the world, delay no more, Mother.

जय तारा जय कालिका,जय दश विद्या वृन्द। काली चालीसा रचत,एक सिद्धि कवि हिन्द॥

Jaya Tara jaya Kalika, jaya dasha vidya vrrinda, Kali chalisa rachata, eka siddhi kavi hinda.

Hail Tara, hail Kalika, hail to the assembly of the ten wisdom-goddesses; this Hindi poet composes the Kali Chalisa as a single accomplishment.

प्रातः काल उठ जो पढ़े,दुपहरिया या शाम। दुःख दरिद्रता दूर हों,सिद्धि होय सब काम॥

Pratah kala utha jo pa.dhe, dupahariya ya shama, duhkha daridrata dura hom, siddhi hoya saba kama.

Whoever rises at dawn and recites this, or at noon, or in the evening, their sorrow and poverty depart, and every task is accomplished.

जय काली कंकाल मालिनी।जय मंगला महा कपालिनी॥

Jaya Kali kamkala malini, jaya mamgala maha Kapalini.

Hail Kali, garlanded with skulls; hail Mangala, the great skull-bearer.

रक्तबीज बधकारिणि माता।सदा भक्त जननकी सुखदाता॥

Raktabija badhakarini mata, sada bhakta jananaki sukhadata.

O Mother, slayer of the demon Raktabija; ever the giver of joy to Your devoted children.

शिरो मालिका भूषित अंगे।जय काली जय मद्य मतंगे॥

Shiro malika bhushita amge, jaya Kali jaya madya matamge.

Adorned with a garland of heads on Your body; hail Kali, hail to the one intoxicated with wine.

हर हृदयारविन्द सुविलासिनि।जय जगदम्बा सकल दुःख नाशिनि॥

Hara hrridayaravinda suvilasini, jaya Jagadamba sakala duhkha nashini.

Delighting upon the lotus of Hara's heart; hail Jagadamba, destroyer of all sorrow.

ह्रीं काली श्री महाकाली।क्रीं कल्याणी दक्षिणाकाली॥

Hrim Kali shri Mahakali, krim kalyani dakshinakali.

Hrim Kali, Shri Mahakali; Krim Kalyani, Dakshina Kali.

जय कलावती जय विद्यावती।जय तारा सुन्दरी महामति॥

Jaya Kalavati jaya vidyavati, jaya Tara sundari mahamati.

Hail Kalavati, hail Vidyavati; hail Tara, the beautiful one of great wisdom.

देहु सुबुद्धि हरहु सब संकट।होहु भक्त के आगे परगट॥

Dehu subuddhi harahu saba samkata, hohu bhakta ke age paragata.

Grant us good wisdom, remove all our troubles; appear before Your devotees.

जय ॐ कारे जय हुंकारे।महा शक्ति जय अपरम्पारे॥

Jaya om kare jaya humkare, maha shakti jaya aparampare.

Hail to the sound of Om, hail to the sound of Hoom; hail great Shakti, boundless beyond measure.

कमला कलियुग दर्प विनाशिनी।सदा भक्त जन के भयनाशिनी॥

Kamala kaliyuga darpa vinashini, sada bhakta jana ke bhayanashini.

O Kamala, destroyer of the pride of the age of Kali; ever the destroyer of fear for Your devotees.

अब जगदम्ब न देर लगावहु।दुख दरिद्रता मोर हटावहु॥

Aba Jagadamba na dera lagavahu, dukha daridrata mora hatavahu.

Now, O Mother of the world, delay no longer; take away my sorrow and poverty.

जयति कराल कालिका माता।कालानल समान द्युतिगाता॥

Jayati karala Kalika mata, kalanala samana dyutigata.

Victorious Mother Kalika, dread and mighty; Your radiant body matches the fire that ends the age.

जयशंकरी सुरेशि सनातनि।कोटि सिद्धि कवि मातु पुरातनि॥

Jayashamkari sureshi sanatani, koti siddhi kavi matu puratani.

Hail Shankari, goddess of the gods, eternal one; ancient mother of poets, giver of countless accomplishments.

कपर्दिनी कलि कल्प बिमोचनि।जय विकसित नव नलिनविलोचनि॥

Kapardini Kali kalpa bimochani, jaya vikasita nava nalinavilochani.

Wife of the matted-haired one, deliverer from the bondage of Kali's age; hail, blossoming one with eyes like fresh lotus.

आनन्द करणि आनन्द निधाना।देहुमातु मोहि निर्मल ज्ञाना॥

Ananda karani ananda nidhana, dehumatu mohi nirmala j~nana.

Giver of joy, treasure of bliss; grant me, Mother, a pure knowledge.

करुणामृत सागर कृपामयी।होहु दुष्ट जनपर अब निर्दयी॥

Karunamrrita sagara krripamayi, hohu dushta janapara aba nirdayi.

Ocean of compassion, filled with mercy; be merciless now only toward the wicked.

सकल जीव तोहि परम पियारा।सकल विश्व तोरे आधारा॥

Sakala jiva tohi parama piyara, sakala vishva tore adhara.

Every being is dear to You above all; the entire universe rests upon You.

प्रलय काल में नर्तन कारिणि।जय जननी सब जग की पालनि॥

Pralaya kala mem nartana karini, jaya janani saba jaga ki palani.

You dance at the time of dissolution; hail, Mother, sustainer of the whole world.

महोदरी महेश्वरी माया।हिमगिरि सुता विश्व की छाया॥

Mahodari maheshvari maya, himagiri suta vishva ki chaya.

Maheshwari of the great belly, the divine illusion; daughter of the mountain, shadow of the universe.

स्वछन्द रद मारद धुनि माही।गर्जत तुम्ही और कोउ नाही॥

Svachanda rada marada dhuni mahi, garjata tumhi aura kou nahi.

In the free-roaring sound resembling wind and cloud, You alone thunder, none other.

स्फुरति मणिगणाकार प्रताने।तारागण तू ब्योम विताने॥

Sphurati maniganakara pratane, taragana tu byoma vitane.

The multitude of stars sparkles like a canopy of jewels; the field of stars is Your spread-out canopy in the sky.

श्री धारे सन्तन हितकारिणी।अग्नि पाणि अति दुष्ट विदारिणि॥

Shri dhare santana hitakarini, agni pani ati dushta vidarini.

Bearer of glory, benefactor of saints; with fiery hand, the destroyer of the truly wicked.

धूम्र विलोचनि प्राण विमोचनि।शुम्भ निशुम्भ मथनि वरलोचनि॥

Dhumra vilochani prana vimochani, shumbha nishumbha mathani varalochani.

Smoky-eyed one, releaser of the life-breath; slayer of Shumbha and Nishumbha, of beautiful eyes.

सहस भुजी सरोरुह मालिनी।चामुण्डे मरघट की वासिनी॥

Sahasa bhuji saroruha malini, chamunde maraghata ki vasini.

A thousand-armed one, garlanded with lotuses; O Chamunda, dweller of the cremation ground.

खप्पर मध्य सुशोणित साजी।मारेहु माँ महिषासुर पाजी॥

Khappara madhya sushonita saji, marehu ma.n mahishasura paji.

Adorned with fresh blood filling a skull-cup; O Mother, You slew the wicked Mahishasura.

अम्ब अम्बिका चण्ड चण्डिका।सब एके तुम आदि कालिका॥

Amba Ambika chanda Chandika, saba eke tuma adi Kalika.

Amba, Ambika, fierce Chandika; all one, You are Kalika from the beginning.

अजा एकरूपा बहुरूपा।अकथ चरित्र तव शक्ति अनूपा॥

Aja ekarupa bahurupa, akatha charitra tava shakti anupa.

Unborn, of a single form, of many forms; Your power is unspeakable, incomparable.

कलकत्ता के दक्षिण द्वारे।मूरति तोर महेशि अपारे॥

Kalakatta ke Dakshina dvare, murati tora maheshi apare.

At the southern gate of Kolkata Your boundless image stands, Maheshi.

कादम्बरी पानरत श्यामा।जय मातंगी काम के धामा॥

Kadambari panarata Shyama, jaya matamgi kama ke dhama.

Dark one delighting in wine, fond of drink; hail Matangi, dwelling in the abode of desire.

कमलासन वासिनी कमलायनि।जय श्यामा जय जय श्यामायनि॥

Kamalasana vasini kamalayani, jaya Shyama jaya jaya shyamayani.

Dweller on the lotus seat, born of the lotus; hail Shyama, hail, hail, mother of Shyama.

मातंगी जय जयति प्रकृति हे।जयति भक्ति उर कुमति सुमति है॥

Matamgi jaya jayati prakrriti he, jayati bhakti ura kumati sumati hai.

Hail, hail Matangi, O nature itself; devotion in the heart grows wise through Your grace.

कोटिब्रह्म शिव विष्णु कामदा।जयति अहिंसा धर्म जन्मदा॥

Kotibrahma Shiva Vishnu kamada, jayati ahimsa dharma janmada.

Giver of desires to countless Brahmas, Shivas and Vishnus; hail to the one who gives birth to non-violence and righteousness.

जल थल नभमण्डल में व्यापिनी।सौदामिनि मध्य अलापिनि॥

Jala thala nabhamandala mem vyapini, saudamini madhya alapini.

Pervading water, earth and the sky's expanse; speaking softly amidst the lightning.

झननन तच्छु मरिरिन नादिनि।जय सरस्वती वीणा वादिनी॥

Jhananana tachchu maririna nadini, jaya sarasvati vina vadini.

With a resounding, ringing melody; hail Saraswati, player of the veena.

ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे।कलित कण्ठ शोभित नरमुण्डा॥

Om aim hrim klim chamundayai vichche, kalita kantha shobhita naramunda.

Om Aim Hrim Klim, hail to Chamunda, victory! Your neck is adorned with severed human heads.

जय ब्रह्माण्ड सिद्धि कवि माता।कामाख्या और काली माता॥

Jaya brahmanda siddhi kavi mata, Kamakhya aura Kali mata.

Hail, Mother of the universe, giver of countless accomplishments; O Kamakhya and Kali Mata.

हिंगलाज विन्ध्याचल वासिनी।अट्टहासिनी अरु अघन नाशिनी॥

Himgalaja vindhyachala vasini, attahasini aru aghana nashini.

Dwelling at Hinglaj and Vindhyachal; loud-laughing one, destroyer of sin.

कितनी स्तुति करूँ अखण्डे।तू ब्रह्माण्डे शक्तिजितचण्डे॥

Kitani stuti karu.n akhande, tu brahmande shaktijitachande.

How much praise can I offer, O boundless One? You are the mighty Shakti who conquers the whole universe.

करहु कृपा सबपे जगदम्बा।रहहिं निशंक तोर अवलम्बा॥

Karahu krripa sabape Jagadamba, rahahim nishamka tora avalamba.

Show grace upon all, O Mother of the world; let us remain fearless with Your support.

चतुर्भुजी काली तुम श्यामा।रूप तुम्हार महा अभिरामा॥

Chaturbhuji Kali tuma Shyama, rupa tumhara maha abhirama.

O Kali of four arms, You are Shyama; Your form is supremely captivating.

खड्ग और खप्पर कर सोहत।सुर नर मुनि सबको मन मोहत॥

Khadga aura khappara kara sohata, sura nara muni sabako mana mohata.

A sword and a skull-cup adorn Your hands; gods, men and sages, all are captivated in mind.

तुम्हरि कृपा पावे जो कोई।रोग शोक नहिं ताकहँ होई॥

Tumhari krripa pave jo koi, roga shoka nahim takaha.n hoi.

Whoever attains Your grace suffers neither illness nor sorrow.

जो यह पाठ करे चालीसा।तापर कृपा करहि गौरीशा॥

Jo yaha patha kare chalisa, tapara krripa karahi gaurisha.

Whoever recites this Chalisa, upon them Shiva Himself shows His grace.

जय कपालिनी जय शिवा,जय जय जय जगदम्ब। सदा भक्तजन केरि दुःख हरहु,मातु अवलम्ब॥

Jaya Kapalini jaya Shiva, jaya jaya jaya Jagadamba, sada bhaktajana keri duhkha harahu, matu avalamba.

Hail, skull-bearer, hail Shiva; hail, hail, hail, Mother of the world; always remove Your devotees' sorrow, Mother, be their support.
