जय काली जगदम्ब जय,हरनि ओघ अघ पुंज। वास करहु निज दास के,निशदिन हृदय निकुंज॥

Jaya Kali Jagadamba jaya, harani ogha agha pumja, vasa karahu nija dasa ke, nishadina hrridaya nikumja.

Victory to Kali, Mother of the world, victory to You who remove the mass of sins. Dwell, day and night, in the inner bower of Your servant's heart.

जयति कपाली कालिका,कंकाली सुख दानि। कृपा करहु वरदायिनी,निज सेवक अनुमानि॥

आर्या, हला, अम्बिका, माया।कात्यायनी उमा जगजाया॥

Arya, hala, Ambika, maya, Katyayani Uma jagajaya.

गिरिजा गौरी दुर्गा चण्डी।दाक्षाणायिनी शाम्भवी प्रचंडी॥

You are Rudrani, the dark-hued Pingala; the flame of fire, and Sarvamangala.

मेघस्वना तपस्विनि योगिनी।सहस्राक्षि तुम अगजग भोगिनी॥

You are Meghaswana, thunder-voiced; the ascetic Yogini; thousand-eyed, You who pervade all moving and unmoving creation.

You are Jalodari, Saraswati, Dakini; ruler of the thirty gods, the invincible Lakini.

पुष्टि तुष्टि धृति स्मृति शिव दूती।कामाक्षी लज्जा आहूती॥

Pushti tushti dhrriti smrriti Shiva duti, Kamakshi lajja ahuti.

You are Pushti, Tushti, Dhriti, Smriti, Shiva's messenger; Kamakshi, modesty, and the offered oblation.

महोदरी कामाक्षि हारिणी।विनायकी श्रुति महा शाकिनी॥

Mahodari Kamakshi harini, vinayaki shruti maha shakini.

You are Mahodari, Kamakshi who removes suffering; Vinayaki, the scriptures, the great Shakini.

अजा कर्ममोही ब्रह्माणी।धात्री वाराही शर्वाणी॥

Aja karmamohi brahmani, dhatri Varahi Sharvani.

You are Aja, the unborn, who bewilders through karma, Brahmani; Dhatri, Varahi, Sharvani.

अष्टादश तब भुजा मनोहर।तिनमहँ अस्त्र विराजत सुन्दर॥

Ashtadasha taba bhuja manohara, tinamaha.n astra virajata sundara.

You have eighteen enchanting arms; in them beautiful weapons are held.

शंख चक्र अरू गदा सुहावन।परिघ भुशण्डी घण्टा पावन॥

Shamkha chakra aru gada suhavana, parigha bhushandi ghanta pavana.

The conch, discus and mace adorn You; the iron mace, the bhushundi weapon, and the sacred bell.

शूल बज्र धनुबाण उठाए।निशिचर कुल सब मारि गिराए॥

Shula bajra dhanubana uthae, nishichara kula saba mari girae.

Raising the trident, thunderbolt, bow and arrow, You struck down and destroyed the entire race of demons.

शुंभ निशुंभ दैत्य संहारे।रक्तबीज के प्राण निकारे॥

Shumbha nishumbha daitya samhare, raktabija ke prana nikare.

You destroyed the demons Shumbh and Nishumbh, and took the life of Raktabij.

चौंसठ योगिनी नाचत संगा।मद्यपान कीन्हैउ रण गंगा॥

Chaumsatha yogini nachata samga, madyapana kinhaiu rana gamga.

The sixty-four Yoginis danced beside You; You drank wine as the battlefield flowed like a river.

कटि किंकिणी मधुर नूपुर धुनि।दैत्यवंश कांपत जेहि सुनि-सुनि॥

Kati kimkini madhura nupura dhuni, daityavamsha kampata jehi suni-suni.

The sweet sound of the bells at Your waist and anklets made the race of demons tremble on hearing it.

कर खप्पर त्रिशूल भयकारी।अहै सदा सन्तन सुखकारी॥

Kara khappara trishula bhayakari, ahai sada santana sukhakari.

In Your hand is the skull-bowl and the fearsome trident; yet You are ever the giver of joy to Your devotees.

शव आरूढ़ नृत्य तुम साजा।बजत मृदंग भेरी के बाजा॥

Shava aru.dha nrritya tuma saja, bajata mrridamga bheri ke baja.

Standing upon a corpse, You perform Your dance, while the mridanga and bheri drums resound.

रक्त पान अरिदल को कीन्हा।प्राण तजेउ जो तुम्हिं न चीन्हा॥

Rakta pana aridala ko kinha, prana tajeu jo tumhim na chinha.

You drank the blood of the enemy hosts; whoever failed to recognize You lost their life.

लपलपाति जिव्हा तव माता।भक्तन सुख दुष्टन दुःख दाता॥

Lapalapati jivha tava mata, bhaktana sukha dushtana duhkha data.

Mother, Your tongue lolls forth; You give joy to devotees and suffering to the wicked.

लसत भाल सेंदुर को टीको।बिखरे केश रूप अति नीको॥

Lasata bhala semdura ko tiko, bikhare kesha rupa ati niko.

A vermilion mark shines upon Your forehead; Your dishevelled hair adds to Your surpassing beauty.

मुंडमाल गल अतिशय सोहत।भुजामल किंकण मनमोहन॥

Mumdamala gala atishaya sohata, bhujamala kimkana manamohana.

A garland of skulls adorns Your neck most splendidly; the bangles on Your arms enchant the mind.

प्रलय नृत्य तुम करहु भवानी।जगदम्बा कहि वेद बखानी॥

Pralaya nrritya tuma karahu Bhavani, Jagadamba kahi veda bakhani.

O Bhavani, You perform the dance of dissolution; the Vedas describe You as Jagadamba, Mother of the world.

तुम मशान वासिनी कराला।भजत तुरत काटहु भवजाला॥

Tuma mashana vasini karala, bhajata turata katahu bhavajala.

You, the fearsome one, dwell in the cremation ground; the moment one worships You, You instantly cut through the web of worldly existence.

बावन शक्ति पीठ तव सुन्दर।जहाँ बिराजत विविध रूप धर॥

Bavana shakti pitha tava sundara, jaha.n birajata vividha rupa dhara.

Your fifty-two beautiful Shakti Peethas are where You reside in Your various forms.

विन्धवासिनी कहूँ बड़ाई।कहँ कालिका रूप सुहाई॥

Vindhavasini kahu.n ba.dai, kaha.n Kalika rupa suhai.

Somewhere You are glorified as Vindhyavasini, elsewhere You shine forth in the beautiful form of Kalika.

शाकम्भरी बनी कहँ ज्वाला।महिषासुर मर्दिनी कराला॥

Shakambhari bani kaha.n jvala, mahishasura mardini karala.

Somewhere You became Shakambhari, elsewhere Jwala; and the fearsome Mahishasura Mardini who slew the buffalo demon.

कामाख्या तव नाम मनोहर।पुजवहिं मनोकामना द्रुततर॥

Kamakhya tava nama manohara, pujavahim manokamana drutatara.

Kamakhya is Your enchanting name; those who worship You there have their wishes fulfilled swiftly.

चंड मुंड वध छिन महं करेउ।देवन के उर आनन्द भरेउ॥

Chamda mumda vadha china maham kareu, devana ke ura ananda bhareu.

In an instant You slew Chanda and Munda, filling the hearts of the gods with joy.

सर्व व्यापिनी तुम माँ तारा।अरिदल दलन लेहु अवतारा॥

Sarva vyapini tuma ma.n Tara, aridala dalana lehu avatara.

You, Mother Tara, pervade everything; You take incarnation to crush the enemy hosts.

खलबल मचत सुनत हुँकारी।अगजग व्यापक देह तुम्हारी॥

Khalabala machata sunata hu.nkari, agajaga vyapaka deha tumhari.

Hearing Your roar, turmoil breaks out; Your form pervades all moving and unmoving creation.

तुम विराट रूपा गुणखानी।विश्व स्वरूपा तुम महारानी॥

Tuma virata rupa gunakhani, vishva svarupa tuma maharani.

You are of cosmic form, the mine of virtues; You, the Great Queen, are the very form of the universe.

उत्पत्ति स्थिति लय तुम्हरे कारण।करहु दास के दोष निवारण॥

Utpatti sthiti laya tumhare karana, karahu dasa ke dosha nivarana.

Creation, preservation and dissolution occur because of You; remove the faults of Your servant.

माँ उर वास करहू तुम अंबा।सदा दीन जन की अवलंबा॥

Ma.n ura vasa karahu tuma Amba, sada dina jana ki avalamba.

Mother Amba, dwell in my heart; You are ever the support of the humble and lowly.

तुम्हारो ध्यान धरै जो कोई।ता कहँ भीति कतहुँ नहिं होई॥

Tumharo dhyana dharai jo koi, ta kaha.n bhiti katahu.n nahim hoi.

Whoever meditates upon You never faces fear anywhere.

विश्वरूप तुम आदि भवानी।महिमा वेद पुराण बखानी॥

Vishvarupa tuma adi Bhavani, mahima veda purana bakhani.

You are the form of the universe, the primal Bhavani; Your glory is described by the Vedas and Puranas.

अति अपार तव नाम प्रभावा।जपत न रहन रंच दुःख दावा॥

Ati apara tava nama prabhava, japata na rahana ramcha duhkha dava.

The power of Your name is boundless; chanting it, not a trace of sorrow's fire remains.

महाकालिका जय कल्याणी।जयति सदा सेवक सुखदानी॥

Mahakalika jaya kalyani, jayati sada sevaka sukhadani.

Victory to Mahakalika, the auspicious one; ever victorious, the giver of joy to Your servants.

तुम अनन्त औदार्य विभूषण।कीजिए कृपा क्षमिये सब दूषण॥

Tuma ananta audarya vibhushana, kijie krripa kshamiye saba dushana.

Your generosity is Your endless ornament; be gracious and forgive all faults.

दास जानि निज दया दिखावहु।सुत अनुमानित सहित अपनावहु॥

Dasa jani nija daya dikhavahu, suta anumanita sahita apanavahu.

Knowing me as Your servant, show Your compassion; consider me Your own child and accept me.

जननी तुम सेवक प्रति पाली।करहु कृपा सब विधि माँ काली॥

Janani tuma sevaka prati pali, karahu krripa saba vidhi ma.n Kali.

O Mother, You have always nurtured Your servants; show Your grace in every way, Mother Kali.

पाठ करै चालीसा जोई।तापर कृपा तुम्हारी होई॥

Patha karai chalisa joi, tapara krripa tumhari hoi.

Whoever recites this Chalisa shall receive Your grace.

जय तारा, जय दक्षिणा,कलावती सुखमूल। शरणागत 'भक्त' है,रहहु सदा अनुकूल॥

Jaya Tara, jaya Dakshina, Kalavati sukhamula, sharanagata 'bhakta' hai, rahahu sada anukula.

Victory to Tara, victory to Dakshina, Kalavati, the root of all happiness; this devotee has taken refuge in You, remain ever gracious.
