सूत उवाच ।

sūta uvāca |

Suta said:

श्रूयतां भो ऋषिश्रेष्ठ येन तुष्टो महेश्वरः ।

śrūyatāṃ bho ṛṣiśreṣṭha yena tuṣṭo maheśvaraḥ |

"Listen, O best of sages, by which he pleases Maheshvara —

तदहं कथयाम्यद्य शिवं नामसहस्रकम् ॥ १॥

tadahaṃ kathayāmyadya śivaṃ nāma sahasrakam || 1 ||

that I shall now tell you today, the thousand names of Shiva."

श्री विष्णुरुवाच ।

śrī viṣṇur uvāca |

Shri Vishnu said:

names

ॐ शिवो हरो मृडो रुद्रः पुष्करः पुष्पलोचनः ।

Oṃ śivo haro mṛḍo rudraḥ puṣkaraḥ puṣpalocanaḥ |

Shiva (the auspicious one); Hara (the remover of sorrow); Mrida (the gracious one); Rudra (the awesome one); Pushkara (the nourisher); and Pushpalochana (lotus-eyed).

अर्थिगम्यः सदाचारः शर्वः शम्भुर्महेश्वरः ॥ २॥

arthigamyaḥ sadācāraḥ śarvaḥ śambhur maheśvaraḥ || 2 ||

Arthigamya (accessible to those in need); Sadachara (of eternal right conduct); Sharva (the destroyer); Shambhu (source of bliss); and Maheshvara (the great lord).

चन्द्रापीडश्चन्द्रमौलिर्विश्वं विश्वम्भरेश्वरः ।

candrāpīḍaś candramaulir viśvaṃ viśvambhareśvaraḥ |

Chandrapida (moon-crowned); Chandramauli (moon-crested); Vishva (the universe itself); and Vishvambhareshvara (lord who sustains the universe).

वेदान्तसारसन्दोहः कपाली नीललोहितः ॥ ३॥

vedāntasārasandohaḥ kapālī nīlalohitaḥ || 3 ||

Vedantasarasandoha (the concentrated essence of Vedanta); Kapali (bearer of the skull); and Nilalohita (blue-red hued).

ध्यानाधारोऽपरिच्छेद्यो गौरीभर्ता गणेश्वरः ।

dhyānādhāro'paricchedyo gaurībhartā gaṇeśvaraḥ |

Dhyanadhara (the support of meditation); Aparicchedya (the unbounded); Gauribharta (husband of Gauri); and Ganeshvara (lord of the ganas).

अष्टमूर्तिर्विश्वमूर्तिस्त्रिवर्गः स्वर्गसाधनः ॥ ४॥

aṣṭamūrtir viśvamūrtis trivargaḥ svargasādhanaḥ || 4 ||

Ashtamurti (of eight forms); Vishvamurti (universal form); Trivarga (the threefold goal of life); and Svargasadhana (the means to heaven).

ज्ञानगम्यो दृढप्रज्ञो देवदेवस्त्रिलोचनः ।

jñānagamyo dṛḍhaprajño devadevas trilocanaḥ |

Jnanagamya (accessible through knowledge); Dridhaprajna (of firm wisdom); Devadeva (god of gods); and Trilochana (three-eyed).

वामदेवो महादेवः पटुः परिवृढो दृढः ॥ ५॥

vāmadevo mahādevaḥ paṭuḥ parivṛḍho dṛḍhaḥ || 5 ||

Vamadeva; Mahadeva (the great god); Patu (the skillful); Parivridha (the foremost); and Dridha (the firm).

विश्वरूपो विरूपाक्षो वागीशः शुचिसत्तमः ।

viśvarūpo virūpākṣo vāgīśaḥ śucisattamaḥ |

Vishvarupa (universal form); Virupaksha (of uncommon eyes); Vagisha (lord of speech); and Shuchisattama (the purest of the pure).

सर्वप्रमाणसंवादी वृषाङ्को वृषवाहनः ॥ ६॥

sarvapramāṇasaṃvādī vṛṣāṅko vṛṣavāhanaḥ || 6 ||

Sarvapramanasamvadi (in accord with every valid means of knowledge); Vrishanka (bull-emblemed); and Vrishavahana (bull-mounted).

ईशः पिनाकी खट्वाङ्गी चित्रवेषश्चिरन्तनः ।

īśaḥ pinākī khaṭvāṅgī citraveṣaś cirantanaḥ |

Isha (the lord); Pinaki (bearer of the Pinaka bow); Khatvangi (bearer of the khatvanga staff); Chitravesha (of wondrous attire); and Chirantana (the ancient one).

तमोहरो महायोगी गोप्ता ब्रह्मा च धूर्जटिः ॥ ७॥

tamoharo mahāyogī goptā brahmā ca dhūrjaṭiḥ || 7 ||

Tamohara (dispeller of darkness); Mahayogi (the great yogi); Gopta (the protector); Brahma; and Dhurjati (bearer of the heavy matted locks).

कालकालः कृत्तिवासाः सुभगः प्रणवात्मकः ।

kālakālaḥ kṛttivāsāḥ subhagaḥ praṇavātmakaḥ |

Kalakala (death of even death); Krittivasa (clad in an animal hide); Subhaga (the fortunate one); and Pranavatmaka (embodiment of the syllable Om).

उन्नद्ध्रः पुरुषो जुष्यो दुर्वासाः पुरशासनः ॥ ८॥

unnaddhraḥ puruṣo juṣyo durvāsāḥ puraśāsanaḥ || 8 ||

Unnaddhra (the exalted); Purusha (the cosmic person); Jushya (worthy of devotion); Durvasa (the hard-to-approach ascetic); and Purashasana (chastiser of the three cities).

दिव्यायुधः स्कन्दगुरुः परमेष्ठी परात्परः ।

divyāyudhaḥ skandaguruḥ parameṣṭhī parātparaḥ |

Divyayudha (bearer of divine weapons); Skandaguru (teacher of Skanda); Parameshthi (the supreme one); and Paratpara (higher than the highest).

अनादिमध्यनिधनो गिरीशो गिरिजाधवः ॥ ९॥

anādimadhyanidhano girīśo girijādhavaḥ || 9 ||

Anadimadhyanidhana (without beginning, middle, or end); Girisha (lord of the mountain); and Girijadhava (husband of Girija).

कुबेरबन्धुः श्रीकण्ठो लोकवर्णोत्तमो मृदुः ।

kuberabandhuḥ śrīkaṇṭho lokavarṇottamo mṛduḥ |

Kuberabandhu (kinsman of Kubera); Shrikantha (of glorious throat); Lokavarnottama (foremost in splendor among the worlds); and Mridu (the gentle one).

समाधिवेद्यः कोदण्डी नीलकण्ठः परश्वधीः ॥ १०॥

samādhivedyaḥ kodaṇḍī nīlakaṇṭhaḥ paraśvadhīḥ || 10 ||

Samadhivedya (known through meditation); Kodandi (bearer of the bow); Nilakantha (blue-throated); and Parashvadhi (bearer of the axe).

विशालाक्षो मृगव्याधः सुरेशस्सूर्यतापनः ।

viśālākṣo mṛgavyādhaḥ sureśas sūryatāpanaḥ |

Vishalaksha (wide-eyed); Mrigavyadha (the hunter deity); Suresha (lord of the gods); and Suryatapana (who gives heat through the sun).

धर्मधाम क्षमाक्षेत्रं भगवान् भगनेत्रभित् ॥ ११॥

dharmadhāma kṣamākṣetraṃ bhagavān bhaganetrabhit || 11 ||

Dharmadhama (the abode of dharma); Kshamakshetra (the field of forbearance); Bhagavan (the blessed lord); and Bhaganetrabhit (destroyer of Bhaga's eye).

उग्रः पशुपतिस्तार्क्ष्यः प्रियभक्तः परन्तपः ।

ugraḥ paśupatis tārkṣyaḥ priyabhaktaḥ parantapaḥ |

Ugra (the fierce); Pashupati (lord of creatures); Tarkshya (swift as Garuda); Priyabhakta (dear to devotees); and Parantapa (scorcher of foes).

दाता दयाकरो दक्षः कपर्दी कामशासनः ॥ १२॥

dātā dayākaro dakṣaḥ kapardī kāmaśāsanaḥ || 12 ||

Data (the giver); Dayakara (the compassionate); Daksha (the capable); Kapardi (of matted locks); and Kamashasana (ruler over desire).

श्मशाननिलयः सूक्ष्मः श्मशानस्थो महेश्वरः ।

śmaśānanilayaḥ sūkṣmaḥ śmaśānastho maheśvaraḥ |

Shmashananilaya (dweller of the cremation ground); Sukshma (the subtle); Shmashanastha (abiding in the cremation ground); and Maheshvara (the great lord).

लोककर्ता मृगपतिर्महाकर्ता महौषधिः ॥ १३॥

lokakartā mṛgapatir mahākartā mahauṣadhiḥ || 13 ||

Lokakarta (creator of the worlds); Mrigapati (lord of beasts); Mahakarta (the great creator); and Mahaushadhi (the great remedy).

सोमपोमृतपः सौम्यो महातेजा महाद्युतिः ।

somapo'mṛtapaḥ saumyo mahātejā mahādyutiḥ |

Somapa (drinker of soma); Amritapa (drinker of nectar); Saumya (gentle); Mahateja (of great radiance); and Mahadyuti (of great splendor).

तेजोमयोऽमृतमयोऽन्नमयश्च सुधापतिः ॥ १४॥

tejomayo'mṛtamayo'nnamayaśca sudhāpatiḥ || 14 ||

Tejomaya (made of radiance); Amritamaya (made of nectar); Annamaya (made of food); and Sudhapati (lord of nectar).

उत्तरो गोपतिर्गोप्ता ज्ञानगम्यः पुरातनः ।

uttaro gopatir goptā jñānagamyaḥ purātanaḥ |

Uttara (the supreme); Gopati (lord of the earth); Gopta (the protector); Jnanagamya (accessible through knowledge); and Puratana (the ancient one).

नीतिः सुनीतिः शुद्धात्मा सोमः सोमरतः सुखी ॥ १५॥

nītiḥ sunītiḥ śuddhātmā somaḥ somarataḥ sukhī || 15 ||

Niti (rectitude); Suniti (of excellent conduct); Shuddhatma (of pure soul); Soma; Somarata (delighting with Uma); and Sukhi (the blissful).

अजातशत्रुरालोकसम्भाव्यो हव्यवाहनः ।

ajātaśatrur ālokasambhāvyo havyavāhanaḥ |

Ajatashatru (one whose enemy is never born); Alokasambhavya (perceivable to direct sight); and Havyavahana (the carrier of oblations, fire).

लोककारो वेदकरः सूत्रकारः सनातनः ॥ १६॥

lokakāro vedakaraḥ sūtrakāraḥ sanātanaḥ || 16 ||

Lokakara (maker of the worlds); Vedakara (author of the Vedas); Sutrakara (author of the aphorisms); and Sanatana (the eternal one).

महर्षिः कपिलाचार्यो विश्वदीप्तिस्त्रिलोचनः ।

maharṣiḥ kapilācāryo viśvadīptis trilocanaḥ |

Maharshi (the great sage); Kapilacharya (the teacher as Kapila); Vishvadipti (radiance of the universe); and Trilochana (three-eyed).

पिनाकपाणिर्भूदेवः स्वस्तिदः स्वस्तिकृत् सुधीः ॥ १७॥

pinākapāṇir bhūdevaḥ svastidaḥ svastikṛt sudhīḥ || 17 ||

Pinakapani (the Pinaka bow in hand); Bhudeva (god of the earth); Svastida (giver of well-being); Svastikrit (bringer of well-being); and Sudhi (of excellent wisdom).

धातृधामा धामकरः सर्वगः सर्वगोचरः ।

dhātṛdhāmā dhāmakaraḥ sarvagaḥ sarvagocaraḥ |

Dhatridhama (the abode of the creator); Dhamakara (maker of light); Sarvaga (all-pervading); and Sarvagochara (accessible to all).

ब्रह्मसृग्विश्वसृक् सर्गः कर्णिकारप्रियः कविः ॥ १८॥

brahmasṛg viśvasṛk sargaḥ karṇikārapriyaḥ kaviḥ || 18 ||

Brahmasrig (creator of Brahma); Vishvasrik (creator of the universe); Sarga (creation itself); Karnikarapriya (fond of the karnikara flower); and Kavi (the poet-seer).

शाखो विशाखो गोशाखः शिवो भिषगनुत्तमः ।

śākho viśākho gośākhaḥ śivo bhiṣaganuttamaḥ |

Shakha (the companion); Vishakha (of many branches); Goshakha (friend of the earth); Shiva; and Bhishaganuttama (the foremost physician).

गङ्गाप्लवोदको भव्यः पुष्कलः स्थपतिः स्थिरः ॥ १९॥

gaṅgāplavodako bhavyaḥ puṣkalaḥ sthapatiḥ sthiraḥ || 19 ||

Gangaplavodaka (whose waters flood with the Ganga); Bhavya (glorious); Pushkala (abundant); Sthapati (master builder); and Sthira (steadfast).

विजितात्मा विधेयात्मा भूतवाहनसारथिः ।

vijitātmā vidheyātmā bhūtavāhanasārathiḥ |

Vijitatma (of conquered self); Vidheyatma (of governable self); and Bhutavahanasarathi (charioteer of the bull, his mount).

सगणो गणकायश्च सुकीर्तिश्छिन्नसंशयः ॥ २०॥

sagaṇo gaṇakāyaśca sukīrtiśchinnasaṃśayaḥ || 20 ||

Sagana (with his hosts); Ganakaya (whose body is the ganas); Sukirti (of good fame); and Chinnasamshaya (free of doubt).

कामदेवः कामपालो भस्मोद्धूलितविग्रहः ।

kāmadevaḥ kāmapālo bhasmoddhūlitavigrahaḥ |

Kamadeva (lord of desire); Kamapala (ruler of desire); and Bhasmoddhulitavigraha (whose form is smeared with ash).

भस्मप्रियो भस्मशायी कामी कान्तः कृतागमः ॥ २१॥

bhasmapriyo bhasmaśāyī kāmī kāntaḥ kṛtāgamaḥ || 21 ||

Bhasmapriya (fond of ash); Bhasmashayi (resting in ash); Kami (lord over desire); Kanta (radiant); and Kritagama (author of the scriptures).

समावर्तोऽनिवृत्तात्मा धर्मपुञ्जः सदाशिवः ।

samāvarto'nivṛttātmā dharmapuñjaḥ sadāśivaḥ |

Samavarta (returning cyclically); Anivrittatma (of unretreating self); Dharmapunja (mass of dharma); and Sadashiva (ever-auspicious).

अकल्मषश्च पुण्यात्मा चतुर्बाहुर्दुरासदः ॥ २२॥

akalmaṣaśca puṇyātmā caturbāhur durāsadaḥ || 22 ||

Akalmasha (unstained); Punyatma (of virtuous soul); Chaturbahu (four-armed); and Durasada (hard to approach).

दुर्लभो दुर्गमो दुर्गः सर्वायुधविशारदः ।

durlabho durgamo durgaḥ sarvāyudhaviśāradaḥ |

Durlabha (hard to attain); Durgama (hard to reach); Durga (the fortress); and Sarvayudhavisharada (skilled in all weapons).

अध्यात्मयोगनिलयः सुतन्तुस्तन्तुवर्धनः ॥ २३॥

adhyātmayoganilayaḥ sutantus tantuvardhanaḥ || 23 ||

Adhyatmayoganilaya (abode of spiritual yoga); Sutantu (of good lineage); and Tantuvardhana (increaser of lineage).

शुभाङ्गो लोकसारङ्गो जगदीशो जनार्दनः ।

śubhāṅgo lokasāraṅgo jagadīśo janārdanaḥ |

Shubhanga (of auspicious limbs); Lokasaranga (essence of the worlds); Jagadisha (lord of the universe); and Janardana (who rouses people).

भस्मशुद्धिकरो मेरुरोजस्वी शुद्धविग्रहः ॥ २४॥

bhasmaśuddhikaro merur ojasvī śuddhavigrahaḥ || 24 ||

Bhasmashuddhikara (purifier through ash); Meru (the cosmic mountain); Ojasvi (vigorous); and Shuddhavigraha (of pure form).

असाध्यः साधुसाध्यश्च भृत्यमर्कटरूपधृक् ।

asādhyaḥ sādhusādhyaśca bhṛtyamarkaṭarūpadhṛk |

Asadhya (unattainable by force); Sadhusadhya (attainable by the virtuous); and Bhrityamarkatarupadhrik (who took the form of a servant-monkey).

हिरण्यरेताः पौराणो रिपुजीवहरो बली ॥ २५॥

hiraṇyaretāḥ paurāṇo ripujīvaharo balī || 25 ||

Hiranyareta (of golden seed); Pauranya (the ancient one of the Puranas); Ripujivahara (taker of enemies' lives); and Bali (the mighty).

महाह्रदो महागर्तः सिद्धो वृन्दारवन्दितः ।

mahāhrado mahāgartaḥ siddho vṛndāravanditaḥ |

Mahahrada (great lake); Mahagarta (great chasm); Siddha (the accomplished); and Vrindaravandita (worshipped by the celestial hosts).

व्याघ्रचर्माम्बरो व्याली महाभूतो महानिधिः ॥ २६॥

vyāghracarmāmbaro vyālī mahābhūto mahānidhiḥ || 26 ||

Vyaghracharmambara (clad in tiger-skin); Vyali (serpent-adorned); Mahabhuta (the great element); and Mahanidhi (great treasure).

अमृतोमृतपः श्रीमान् पाञ्चजन्यः प्रभञ्जनः ।

amṛto'mṛtapaḥ śrīmān pāñcajanyaḥ prabhañjanaḥ |

Amrita (immortal); Amritapa (nectar-drinker); Shriman (glorious); Panchajanya (of the conch); and Prabhanjana (the tempest).

पञ्चविंशतितत्त्वस्थः पारिजातः परात्परः ॥ २७॥

pañcaviṃśatitattvasthaḥ pārijātaḥ parātparaḥ || 27 ||

Panchavimshatitattvastha (abiding in the twenty-five principles of creation); Parijata (the celestial tree); and Paratpara (higher than the highest).

सुलभः सुव्रतः शूरो वाङ्मयैकनिधिर्निधिः ।

sulabhaḥ suvrataḥ śūro vāṅmayaikanidhir nidhiḥ |

Sulabha (easily attained); Suvrata (of good vows); Shura (the hero); and Vangmayaikanidhirnidhi (the sole treasury of eloquence).

वर्णाश्रमगुरुर्वर्णी शत्रुजिच्छत्रुतापनः ॥ २८॥

varṇāśramagurur varṇī śatrujicchatrutāpanaḥ || 28 ||

Varnashramaguru (teacher of the social orders); Varni (the celibate student); Shatrujit (conqueror of enemies); and Shatrutapana (scorcher of enemies).

आश्रमः क्षपणः क्षामो ज्ञानवानचलेश्वरः ।

āśramaḥ kṣapaṇaḥ kṣāmo jñānavān acaleśvaraḥ |

Ashrama (the hermitage); Kshapana (the night-wanderer); Kshama (the patient); Jnanavan (possessing knowledge); and Achaleshvara (lord of the mountain).

प्रमाणभूतो दुर्ज्ञेयः सुवर्णो वायुवाहनः ॥ २९॥

pramāṇabhūto durjñeyaḥ suvarṇo vāyuvāhanaḥ || 29 ||

Pramanabhuta (the standard of truth); Durjneya (hard to know); Suvarna (golden); and Vayuvahana (borne by the wind).

धनुर्धरो धनुर्वेदो गुणः शशिगुणाकरः ।

dhanurdharo dhanurvedo guṇaḥ śaśiguṇākaraḥ |

Dhanurdhara (bow-bearer); Dhanurveda (the science of archery); Guna (the bowstring); and Shashigunakara (mine of moon-like virtues).

सत्यः सत्यपरोऽदीनो धर्माङ्गो धर्मशासनः ॥ ३०॥

satyaḥ satyaparo'dīno dharmāṅgo dharmaśāsanaḥ || 30 ||

Satya (the true); Satyapara (devoted to truth); Adina (undespairing); Dharmanga (limb of dharma); and Dharmashasana (ordainer of dharma).

अनन्तदृष्टिरानन्दो दण्डो दमयिता दमः ।

anantadṛṣṭir ānando daṇḍo damayitā damaḥ |

Anantadrishti (of infinite vision); Ananda (bliss); Danda (the rod of justice); Damayita (the subduer); and Dama (self-control).

अभिचार्यो महामायो विश्वकर्मविशारदः ॥ ३१॥

abhicāryo mahāmāyo viśvakarmaviśāradaḥ || 31 ||

Abhicharya (invoked in rites); Mahamaya (of great illusion); and Vishvakarmavisharada (skilled in all works).

वीतरागो विनीतात्मा तपस्वी भूतभावनः ।

vītarāgo vinītātmā tapasvī bhūtabhāvanaḥ |

Vitaraga (free of passion); Vinitatma (of humble self); Tapasvi (the ascetic); and Bhutabhavana (creator of beings).

उन्मत्तवेषः प्रच्छन्नो जितकामो जितप्रियः ॥ ३२॥

unmattaveṣaḥ pracchanno jitakāmo jitapriyaḥ || 32 ||

Unmattavesha (of mad-seeming attire); Prachchhanna (the hidden); Jitakama (conqueror of desire); and Jitapriya (conqueror of attachment).

कल्याणप्रकृतिः कल्पः सर्वलोकप्रजापतिः ।

kalyāṇaprakṛtiḥ kalpaḥ sarvalokaprajāpatiḥ |

Kalyanaprakriti (of auspicious nature); Kalpa (the cosmic age); and Sarvalokaprajapati (lord of creatures of all worlds).

तरस्वी तारको धीमान् प्रधानः प्रभुरव्ययः ॥ ३३॥

tarasvī tārako dhīmān pradhānaḥ prabhur avyayaḥ || 33 ||

Tarasvi (the swift); Taraka (the deliverer); Dhiman (the wise); Pradhana (the foremost); Prabhu (the lord); and Avyaya (the imperishable).

लोकपालोऽन्तर्हितात्मा कल्पादिः कमलेक्षणः ।

lokapālo'ntarhitātmā kalpādiḥ kamalekṣaṇaḥ |

Lokapala (guardian of the worlds); Antarhitatma (of concealed self); Kalpadi (the beginning of the age); and Kamalekshana (lotus-eyed).

वेदशास्त्रार्थतत्वज्ञो नियमो नियताश्रयः ॥ ३४॥

vedaśāstrārthatattvajño niyamo niyatāśrayaḥ || 34 ||

Vedashastrarthatattvajna (knower of the true meaning of scripture); Niyama (discipline); and Niyatashraya (the fixed refuge).

चन्द्रः सूर्यः शनिः केतुर्वराङ्गो विद्रुमच्छविः ।

candraḥ sūryaḥ śaniḥ ketur varāṅgo vidrumacchaviḥ |

Chandra, Surya, Shani and Ketu (moon, sun, Saturn and the shadow-planet); Varanga (of excellent limbs); and Vidrumachchhavi (coral-hued).

भक्तिवश्यः परं ब्रह्मा मृगबाणार्पणोऽनघः ॥ ३५॥

bhaktivaśyaḥ paraṃ brahma mṛgabāṇārpaṇo'naghaḥ || 35 ||

Bhaktivashya (won over by devotion); Param Brahma (the supreme Brahman); Mrigabanarpana (offerer of the arrow to the deer); and Anagha (sinless).

अद्रिरद्र्यालयः कान्तः परमात्मा जगद्गुरुः ।

adrir adryālayaḥ kāntaḥ paramātmā jagadguruḥ |

Adri (the mountain); Adryalaya (dweller of the mountain); Kanta (radiant); Paramatma (the supreme self); and Jagadguru (teacher of the universe).

सर्वकर्मालयस्तुष्टो मङ्गल्यो मङ्गलावृतः ॥ ३६॥

sarvakarmālayastuṣṭo maṅgalyo maṅgalāvṛtaḥ || 36 ||

Sarvakarmalaya (abode of all actions); Tushta (the satisfied); Mangalya (auspicious); and Mangalavrita (surrounded by auspiciousness).

महातपा दीर्घतपाः स्थविष्ठः स्थविरो धृवः ।

mahātapā dīrghatapāḥ sthaviṣṭhaḥ sthaviro dhruvaḥ |

Mahatapa (of great austerity); Dirghatapa (of long austerity); Sthavishtha (the vastest); Sthavira (the ancient); and Dhruva (the fixed).

अहः संवत्सरो व्याप्तिः प्रमाणं परमं तपः ॥ ३७॥

ahaḥ saṃvatsaro vyāptiḥ pramāṇaṃ paramaṃ tapaḥ || 37 ||

Ahah (day); Samvatsara (the year); Vyapti (pervasion); Pramana (the measure); and Paramamtapa (supreme austerity).

संवत्सरकरो मन्त्रः प्रत्ययः सर्वतापनः ।

saṃvatsarakaro mantraḥ pratyayaḥ sarvatāpanaḥ |

Samvatsarakara (maker of the year); Mantra (the sacred formula); Pratyaya (conviction); and Sarvatapana (scorcher of all).

अजः सर्वेस्वरः सिद्धो महातेजा महाबलः ॥ ३८॥

ajaḥ sarveśvaraḥ siddho mahātejā mahābalaḥ || 38 ||

Aja (the unborn); Sarveshvara (lord of all); Siddha (the accomplished); Mahateja (of great radiance); and Mahabala (of great strength).

योगी योग्यो महारेताः सिद्धिः सर्वादिरग्रहः ।

yogī yogyo mahāretāḥ siddhiḥ sarvādir agrahaḥ |

Yogi; Yogya (the worthy); Maharetas (of great potency); Siddhi (accomplishment); and Sarvadiragraha (the ungraspable origin of all).

वसुर्वसुमनाः सत्यः सर्वपापहरो हरः ॥ ३९॥

vasur vasumanāḥ satyaḥ sarvapāpaharo haraḥ || 39 ||

Vasu (excellent); Vasumana (of a mind rich in virtue); Satya (the true); Sarvapapahara (remover of all sins); and Hara (the destroyer).

सुकीर्तिः शोभनः स्रग्वी वेदाङ्गो वेदविन्मुनिः ।

sukīrtiḥ śobhanaḥ sragvī vedāṅgo vedavinmuniḥ |

Sukirti (of good fame); Shobhana (splendid); Sragvi (garlanded); Vedanga (the limbs of the Veda); and Vedavinmuni (a sage knowing the Vedas).

भ्राजिष्णुर्भोजनं भोक्ता लोकनाथो दुराधरः ॥ ४०॥

bhrājiṣṇur bhojanaṃ bhoktā lokanātho durādharaḥ || 40 ||

Bhrajishnu (the radiant); Bhojana (nourishment); Bhokta (the enjoyer); Lokanatha (lord of the world); and Duradhara (hard to surpass).

अमृतः शाश्वतः शान्तो बाणहस्तः प्रतापवान् ।

amṛtaḥ śāśvataḥ śānto bāṇahastaḥ pratāpavān |

Amrita (the immortal); Shashvata (the eternal); Shanta (the peaceful); Banahasta (arrow in hand); and Pratapavan (the mighty).

कमण्डलुधरो धन्वी ह्यवाङ्मनसगोचरः ॥ ४१॥

kamaṇḍaludharo dhanvī hyavāṅmanasagocaraḥ || 41 ||

Kamandaludhara (bearer of the water-pot); Dhanvi (the bow-bearer); and Avanmanasagochara (beyond the reach of speech and mind).

अतीन्द्रियो महामायः सर्ववासश्चतुष्पथः ।

atīndriyo mahāmāyaḥ sarvavāsaścatuṣpathaḥ |

Atindriya (beyond the senses); Mahamaya (of great illusion); Sarvavasa (dwelling in all); and Chatushpatha (the crossroads).

कालयोगी महानादो महोत्साहो महाबलः ॥ ४२॥

kālayogī mahānādo mahotsāho mahābalaḥ || 42 ||

Kalayogi (the yogi of time); Mahanada (of great sound); Mahotsaha (of great vigor); and Mahabala (of great strength).

महाबुद्धिर्महावीर्यो भूतचारी पुरन्दरः ।

mahābuddhir mahāvīryo bhūtacārī purandaraḥ |

Mahabuddhi (of great intellect); Mahavirya (of great valor); Bhutachari (wandering among beings); and Purandara (destroyer of citadels).

निशाचरः प्रेतचारी महाशक्तिर्महाद्युतिः ॥ ४३॥

niśācaraḥ pretacārī mahāśaktir mahādyutiḥ || 43 ||

Nishachara (night-wanderer); Pretachari (moving among spirits); Mahashakti (of great power); and Mahadyuti (of great splendor).

अनिर्देश्यवपुः श्रीमान् सर्वाचार्यमनोगतिः ।

anirdeśyavapuḥ śrīmān sarvācāryamanogatiḥ |

Anirdeshyavapu (of indescribable form); Shriman (the glorious); and Sarvacharyamanogati (the resort of every teacher's mind).

बहुश्रुतिर्महामायो नियतात्मा ध्रुवोऽध्रुवः ॥ ४४॥

bahuśrutir mahāmāyo niyatātmā dhruvo'dhruvaḥ || 44 ||

Bahushruti (of vast learning); Mahamaya (of great illusion); Niyatatma (of controlled self); and Dhruva-Adhruva (the fixed and the unfixed).

ओजस्तेजो द्युतिधरो जनकः सर्वशासकः ।

ojastejo dyutidharo janakaḥ sarvaśāsakaḥ |

Ojastejodyutidhara (bearer of vigor, radiance and splendor); Janaka (the progenitor); and Sarvashasaka (ruler of all).

नृत्यप्रियो नृत्यनित्यः प्रकाशात्मा प्रकाशकः ॥ ४५॥

nṛtyapriyo nṛtyanityaḥ prakāśātmā prakāśakaḥ || 45 ||

Nrityapriya (fond of dance); Nrityanitya (ever dancing); Prakashatma (of luminous self); and Prakashaka (the illuminator).

स्पष्टाक्षरो बुधो मन्त्रः समानः सारसम्प्लवः ।

spaṣṭākṣaro budho mantraḥ samānaḥ sārasamplavaḥ |

Spashtakshara (of clear syllables); Budha (the wise); Mantra (the sacred formula itself); Samana (the impartial); and Sarasamplava (the flood of essence).

युगादिकृद्युगावर्तो गम्भीरो वृषवाहनः ॥ ४६॥

yugādikṛd yugāvarto gambhīro vṛṣavāhanaḥ || 46 ||

Yugadikrit (maker of the ages); Yugavarta (the turner of ages); Gambhira (the profound); and Vrishavahana (bull-mounted).

इष्टो विशिष्टः शिष्टेष्टः सुलभः सारशोधनः ।

iṣṭo viśiṣṭaḥ śiṣṭeṣṭaḥ sulabhaḥ sāraśodhanaḥ |

Ishta (the desired); Vishishta (the distinguished); Shishteshta (beloved of the virtuous); Sulabha (easily attained); and Sarashodhana (purifier of the essence).

तीर्थरूपस्तीर्थनामा तीर्थदृश्यस्तु तीर्थदः ॥ ४७॥

tīrtharūpas tīrthanāmā tīrthadṛśyastu tīrthadaḥ || 47 ||

Tirtharupa (of the form of a holy site); Tirthanama (bearing the name of a holy site); Tirthadrishya (visible at holy sites); and Tirthada (giver of holy sites).

अपां निधिरधिष्ठानं विजयो जयकालवित् ।

apāṃ nidhir adhiṣṭhānaṃ vijayo jayakālavit |

Apamnidhi (the treasury of waters); Adhishthana (the foundation); Vijaya (victory); and Jayakalavit (knower of the hour of victory).

प्रतिष्ठितः प्रमाणज्ञो हिरण्यकवचो हरिः ॥ ४८॥

pratiṣṭhitaḥ pramāṇajño hiraṇyakavaco hariḥ || 48 ||

Pratishthita (the established); Pramanajna (knower of true measure); Hiranyakavacha (golden-armored); and Hari (the remover).

विमोचनः सुरगणो विद्येशो बिन्दुसंश्रयः ।

vimocanaḥ suragaṇo vidyeśo bindusaṃśrayaḥ |

Vimochana (the liberator); Suragana (the host of gods); Vidyesha (lord of knowledge); and Bindusamshraya (abiding in the primal point).

वातरूपोऽमलोन्मायी विकर्ता गहनो गुहः ॥ ४९॥

vātarūpo'malonmāyī vikartā gahano guhaḥ || 49 ||

Vatarupa (of the form of wind); Amalonmayi (the spotless enchanter); Vikarta (the diversifier); Gahana (the profound); and Guha (the hidden one).

करणं कारणं कर्ता सर्वबन्धविमोचनः ।

karaṇaṃ kāraṇaṃ kartā sarvabandhavimocanaḥ |

Karana (the instrument); Karana (the cause); Karta (the doer); and Sarvabandhavimochana (releaser from every bondage).

व्यवसायो व्यवस्थानः स्थानदो जगदादिजः ॥ ५०॥

vyavasāyo vyavasthānaḥ sthānado jagadādijaḥ || 50 ||

Vyavasaya (resolve); Vyavasthana (order); Sthanada (giver of place); and Jagadadija (born at the world's beginning).

गुरुदो ललितोऽभेदो भावात्मात्मनि संस्थितः ।

gurudo lalito'bhedo bhāvātmātmani saṃsthitaḥ |

Guruda (giver of the teaching); Lalita (the graceful); Abheda (the undivided); and Bhavatmatmanisamsthita (whose being abides within the self).

वीरेश्वरो वीरभद्रो वीरासनविधिर्गुरुः ॥ ५१॥

vīreśvaro vīrabhadro vīrāsanavidhir guruḥ || 51 ||

Vireshvara (lord of heroes); Virabhadra; Virasanavidhi (ordainer of the hero's seat); and Guru (the teacher).

वीरचूडामणिर्वेत्ता चिदानन्दो नदीधरः ।

vīracūḍāmaṇir vettā cidānando nadīdharaḥ |

Viracudamani (crest-jewel of heroes); Vetta (the knower); Chidananda (of consciousness-bliss); and Nadidhara (bearer of the river).

आज्ञाधारस्त्रिशूली च शिपिविष्टः शिवालयः ॥ ५२॥

ājñādhāras triśūlī ca śipiviṣṭaḥ śivālayaḥ || 52 ||

Ajnadhara (upholder of divine command); Trishuli (bearer of the trident); Shipivishta (dwelling in radiant rays); and Shivalaya (the abode of Shiva).

वालखिल्यो महावीरस्तिग्मांशुर्बधिरः खगः ।

vālakhilyo mahāvīras tigmāṃśur badhiraḥ khagaḥ |

Valakhilya (sage among the Valakhilyas); Mahavira (the great hero); Tigmamshu (of sharp rays); Badhira (the heedless); and Khaga (the sky-goer).

अभिरामः सुशरणः सुब्रह्मण्यः सुधापतिः ॥ ५३॥

abhirāmaḥ suśaraṇaḥ subrahmaṇyaḥ sudhāpatiḥ || 53 ||

Abhirama (the delightful); Susharana (the good refuge); Subrahmanya (father of Skanda); and Sudhapati (lord of nectar).

मघवान् कौशिको गोमान् विरामः सर्वसाधनः ।

maghavān kauśiko gomān virāmaḥ sarvasādhanaḥ |

Maghavan (the bountiful); Kaushika (of the Kaushika lineage); Goman (rich in cattle); Virama (the cessation); and Sarvasadhana (means to everything).

ललाटाक्षो विश्वदेहः सारः संसारचक्रभृत् ॥ ५४॥

lalāṭākṣo viśvadehaḥ sāraḥ saṃsāracakrabhṛt || 54 ||

Lalataksha (having an eye on the forehead); Vishvadeha (whose body is the universe); Sara (the essence); and Samsarachakrabhrit (bearer of the wheel of transmigration).

अमोघदण्डी मध्यस्थो हिरण्यो ब्रह्मवर्चसः ।

amoghadaṇḍī madhyastho hiraṇyo brahmavarcasaḥ |

Amoghadandi (bearer of the unfailing staff); Madhyastha (the impartial mediator); Hiranya (the golden one); and Brahmavarchasa (radiant with Brahmic splendor).

परमार्थः परो मायी शम्बरो व्याघ्रलोचनः ॥ ५५॥

paramārthaḥ paro māyī śambaro vyāghralocanaḥ || 55 ||

Paramartha (the highest truth); Para (the transcendent); Mayi (the wielder of maya); Shambara (subduer of illusion); and Vyaghralochana (tiger-eyed).

रुचिर्बहुरुचिर्वैद्यो वाचस्पतिरहस्पतिः ।

rucir bahurucir vaidyo vācaspatir ahaspatiḥ |

Ruchi (splendor); Bahuruchi (of manifold splendors); Vaidya (the physician); Vachaspati (lord of speech); and Ahaspati (lord of the day).

रविर्विरोचनः स्कन्दः शास्ता वैवस्वतो यमः ॥ ५६॥

ravir virocanaḥ skandaḥ śāstā vaivasvato yamaḥ || 56 ||

Ravi (the sun); Virochana (the shining one); Skanda; Shasta (the ruler); Vaivasvata (son of Vivasvat); and Yama (lord of restraint).

युक्तिरुन्नतकीर्तिश्च सानुरागः पुरञ्जयः ।

yuktir unnatakīrtiśca sānurāgaḥ purañjayaḥ |

Yukti (right method); Unnatakirti (of exalted fame); Sanuraga (the affectionate); and Puranjaya (conqueror of cities).

कैलासाधिपतिः कान्तः सविता रविलोचनः ॥ ५७॥

kailāsādhipatiḥ kāntaḥ savitā ravilocanaḥ || 57 ||

Kailasadhipati (lord of Kailasa); Kanta (the radiant beloved); Savita (the vivifier); and Ravilochana (sun-eyed).

विश्वोत्तमो वीतभयो विश्वभर्ताऽनिवारतः ।

viśvottamo vītabhayo viśvabhartā'nivāritaḥ |

Vishvottama (the best in the universe); Vitabhaya (free from fear); Vishvabharta (sustainer of the universe); and Anivarita (the unobstructed).

नित्यो नियतकल्याणः पुण्यश्रवणकीर्तनः ॥ ५८॥

nityo niyatakalyāṇaḥ puṇyaśravaṇakīrtanaḥ || 58 ||

Nitya (the eternal); Niyatakalyana (of assured auspiciousness); and Punyashravanakirtana (whose hearing and praise bring merit).

दूरश्रवो विश्वसहो ध्येयो दुस्स्वप्ननाशनः ।

dūraśravo viśvasaho dhyeyo duḥsvapnanāśanaḥ |

Durashrava (far-hearing); Vishvasaha (enduring all); Dhyeya (worthy of meditation); and Dusvapnanashana (destroyer of bad dreams).

उत्तारणो दुष्कृतिहा विज्ञेयो दुस्सहोऽभवः ॥ ५९॥

uttāraṇo duṣkṛtihā vijñeyo duḥsaho'bhavaḥ || 59 ||

Uttarana (the ferrier across); Dushkritiha (destroyer of sin); Vijneya (worthy to be known); Dussaha (unbearable to foes); and Abhava (the unborn).

अनादिर्भूर्भुवो लक्ष्मीः किरीटी त्रिदशाधिपः ।

anādir bhūrbhuvo lakṣmīḥ kirīṭī tridaśādhipaḥ |

Anadi (the beginningless); Bhurbhuvolakshmi (the glory of earth and sky); Kiriti (crowned); and Tridashadhipa (lord of the thirty gods).

विश्वगोप्ता विश्वकर्ता सुवीरो रुचिराङ्गदः ॥ ६०॥

viśvagoptā viśvakartā suvīro rucirāṅgadaḥ || 60 ||

Vishvagopta (protector of the universe); Vishvakarta (creator of the universe); Suvira (great hero); and Ruchirangada (of beautiful armlets).

जननो जनजन्मादिः प्रीतिमान्नीतिमान् ध्रुवः ।

janano janajanmādiḥ prītimān nītimān dhruvaḥ |

Janana (the begetter); Janajanmadi (origin of the birth of beings); Pritiman (the affectionate); Nitiman (the righteous); and Dhruva (the fixed).

वशिष्ठः कश्यपो भानुर्भीमो भीमपराक्रमः ॥ ६१॥

vaśiṣṭhaḥ kaśyapo bhānur bhīmo bhīmaparākramaḥ || 61 ||

Vashishtha; Kashyapa; Bhanu (the radiant sun); Bhima (the formidable); and Bhimaparakrama (of formidable prowess).

प्रणवः सत्पथाचारो महाकोशो महाधनः ।

praṇavaḥ satpathācāro mahākośo mahādhanaḥ |

Pranava (the syllable Om); Satpathachara (walker of the righteous path); Mahakosha (of great treasury); and Mahadhana (of great wealth).

जन्माधिपो महादेवः सकलागमपारगः ॥ ६२॥

janmādhipo mahādevaḥ sakalāgamapāragaḥ || 62 ||

Janmadhipa (lord of birth); Mahadeva (the great god); and Sakalagamaparaga (master of all the scriptures).

तत्त्वं तत्त्वविदेकात्मा विभुर्विष्णुविभूषणः ।

tattvaṃ tattvavidekātmā vibhur viṣṇuvibhūṣaṇaḥ |

Tattva (the ultimate truth); Tattvavidekatma (the self known by knowers of truth); Vibhu (the all-pervading); and Vishnuvibhushana (the ornament of Vishnu).

ऋषिर्ब्राह्मण ऐश्वर्यं जन्ममृत्युजरातिगः ॥ ६३॥

ṛṣir brāhmaṇa aiśvaryaṃ janmamṛtyujarātigaḥ || 63 ||

Rishi (the sage); Brahmana (the priest); Aishvarya (sovereignty itself); and Janmamrityujaratiga (beyond birth, death and old age).

पञ्चयज्ञसमुत्पत्तिर्विश्वेशो विमलोदयः ।

pañcayajñasamutpattir viśveśo vimalodayaḥ |

Panchayajnasamutpatti (origin of the five sacrifices); Vishvesha (lord of the universe); and Vimalodaya (of pure rising).

आत्मयोनिरनाद्यन्तो वत्सलो भक्तलोकधृक् ॥ ६४॥

ātmayonir anādyanto vatsalo bhaktalokadhṛk || 64 ||

Atmayoni (self-born); Anadyanta (without beginning or end); Vatsala (affectionate); and Bhaktalokadhrik (upholder of the world of devotees).

गायत्रीवल्लभः प्रांशुर्विश्वावासः प्रभाकरः ।

gāyatrīvallabhaḥ prāṃśur viśvāvāsaḥ prabhākaraḥ |

Gayatrivallabha (beloved of the Gayatri); Pramshu (the exalted); Vishvavasa (dwelling in the universe); and Prabhakara (the light-maker).

शिशुर्गिरिरतः सम्राट् सुषेणः सुरशत्रुहा ॥ ६५॥

śiśur girirataḥ samrāṭ suṣeṇaḥ suraśatruhā || 65 ||

Shishu (the child); Girirata (delighting in the mountain); Samrat (the sovereign); Sushena (of a fine army); and Surashatruha (slayer of the gods' foes).

अनेमिरिष्टनेमिश्च मुकुन्दो विगतज्वरः ।

anemir iṣṭanemiśca mukundo vigatajvaraḥ |

Anemi (the boundless wheel); Ishtanemi (of the desired rim); Mukunda (giver of liberation); and Vigatajvara (free of anguish).

स्वयञ्ज्योतिर्महाज्योतिस्तनुज्योतिरचञ्चलः ॥ ६६॥

svayañjyotir mahājyotis tanujyotir acañcalaḥ || 66 ||

Svayamjyoti (self-luminous); Mahajyoti (of great light); Tanujyoti (whose light is his body); and Achanchala (the unwavering).

पिङ्गळः कपिलश्मश्रुर्भालनेत्रस्त्रयीतनुः ।

piṅgalaḥ kapilaśmaśrur bhālanetras trayītanuḥ |

Pingala (the tawny); Kapilashmashru (of tawny beard); Bhalanetra (having an eye on the forehead); and Trayitanu (whose body is the three Vedas).

ज्ञानस्कन्दो महानीतिर्विश्वोत्पत्तिरुपप्लवः ॥ ६७॥

jñānaskando mahānītir viśvotpattir upaplavaḥ || 67 ||

Jnanaskanda (the flow of knowledge); Mahaniti (of great righteousness); Vishvotpatti (origin of the universe); and Upaplava (the turmoil).

भगो विवस्वानादित्यो गतपारो बृहस्पतिः ।

bhago vivasvān ādityo gatapāro bṛhaspatiḥ |

Bhaga (the bountiful); Vivasvan (the radiant sun); Aditya; Gatapara (who has reached the far shore); and Brihaspati (lord of sacred speech).

कल्याणगुणनामा च पापहा पुण्यदर्शनः ॥ ६८॥

kalyāṇaguṇanāmā ca pāpahā puṇyadarśanaḥ || 68 ||

Kalyanagunanama (whose very name is an auspicious quality); Papaha (destroyer of sin); and Punyadarshana (whose sight bestows merit).

उदारकीर्तिरुद्योगी सद्योगी सदसन्मयः ।

udārakīrtir udyogī sadyogī sadasanmayaḥ |

Udarakirti (of noble fame); Udyogi (the diligent); Sadyogi (the true yogi); and Sadasanmaya (made of the existent and non-existent).

नक्षत्रमाली नाकेशः स्वाधिष्ठानः षडाश्रयः ॥ ६९॥

nakṣatramālī nākeśaḥ svādhiṣṭhānaḥ ṣaḍāśrayaḥ || 69 ||

Nakshatramali (garlanded with stars); Nakesha (lord of heaven); Svadhishthana (self-established); and Shadashraya (support of the six).

पवित्रः पापहारी च मणिपूरो नभोगतिः ।

pavitraḥ pāpahārī ca maṇipūro nabhogatiḥ |

Pavitra (the pure); Papahari (remover of sin); Manipura (dwelling in the manipura chakra); and Nabhogati (moving through the sky).

हृत्पुण्डरीकमासीनः शक्रः शान्तो वृषाकपिः ॥ ७०॥

hṛtpuṇḍarīkam āsīnaḥ śakraḥ śānto vṛṣākapiḥ || 70 ||

Hritpundarikamasina (seated in the lotus of the heart); Shakra (the mighty); Shanta (the peaceful); and Vrishakapi (the bull-and-monkey form).

उष्णो ग्रहपतिः कृष्णः समर्थोनर्थनाशनः ।

uṣṇo grahapatiḥ kṛṣṇaḥ samartho'narthanāśanaḥ |

Ushna (the warm); Grahapati (lord of the planets); Krishna (the dark one); Samartha (the capable); and Anarthanashana (destroyer of misfortune).

अधर्मशत्रुरज्ञेयः पुरुहूतः पुरश्रुतः ॥ ७१॥

adharmaśatrur ajñeyaḥ puruhūtaḥ puruśrutaḥ || 71 ||

Adharmashatru (enemy of unrighteousness); Ajneya (the unknowable); Puruhuta (much-invoked); and Purushruta (much-renowned).

ब्रह्मगर्भो बृहद्गर्भो धर्मधेनुर्धनागमः ।

brahmagarbho bṛhadgarbho dharmadhenur dhanāgamaḥ |

Brahmagarbha (containing Brahma in his womb); Brihadgarbha (of vast womb); Dharmadhenu (the cow of dharma); and Dhanagama (source of wealth).

जगद्धितैषी सुगतः कुमारः कुशलागमः ॥ ७२॥

jagaddhitaiṣī sugataḥ kumāraḥ kuśalāgamaḥ || 72 ||

Jagaddhitaishi (wisher of the world's welfare); Sugata (the well-gone); Kumara (the youth); and Kushalagama (of auspicious approach).

हिरण्यवर्णो ज्योतिष्मान्नानाभूतरतो ध्वनिः ।

hiraṇyavarṇo jyotiṣmān nānābhūtarato dhvaniḥ |

Hiranyavarna (golden-hued); Jyotishman (the luminous); Nanabhutarata (delighting in various beings); and Dhvani (sound).

आरोग्यो नयनाध्यक्षो विश्वामित्रो धनेश्वरः ॥ ७३॥

ārogyo nayanādhyakṣo viśvāmitro dhaneśvaraḥ || 73 ||

Arogya (health itself); Nayanadhyaksha (overseer of sight); Vishvamitra (friend of the universe); and Dhaneshvara (lord of wealth).

ब्रह्मज्योतिर्वसुधामा महाज्योतिरनुत्तमः ।

brahmajyotir vasudhāmā mahājyotir anuttamaḥ |

Brahmajyoti (the light of Brahman); Vasudhama (abode of wealth); Mahajyoti (great light); and Anuttama (the unsurpassed).

मातामहो मातरिश्वा नभस्वान्नागहारधृक् ॥ ७४॥

mātāmaho mātariśvā nabhasvān nāgahāradhṛk || 74 ||

Matamaha (the grandfather); Matarishva (the wind); Nabhasvan (dwelling in the sky); and Nagaharadhrik (bearer of a serpent garland).

पुलस्त्यः पुलहोऽगस्त्यो जातूकर्ण्यः पराशरः ।

pulastyaḥ pulaho'gastyo jātūkarṇyaḥ parāśaraḥ |

Pulastya, Pulaha, Agastya, Jatukarnya and Parashara — names of the great sages the Lord assumes.

निरावरणनिर्वारो वैरञ्च्यो विष्टरश्रवाः ॥ ७५॥

nirāvaraṇanirvāro vairañcyo viṣṭaraśravāḥ || 75 ||

Niravaranairvara (unobstructed, free of covering); Vairanchya (relating to Brahma); and Vishtarashrava (of far-heard fame).

आत्मभूरनिरुद्धोत्रिर्ज्ञानमूर्तिर्महायशाः ।

ātmabhūr aniruddho'trir jñānamūrtir mahāyaśāḥ |

Atmabhu (self-born); Aniruddha (unobstructed); Atri (the sage Atri); Jnanamurti (embodiment of knowledge); and Mahayasha (of great fame).

Vyalakalpa (adorned with serpents); Mahakalpa (the great cosmic age); Kalpavriksha (the wish-fulfilling tree); and Kaladhara (bearer of the arts).

अलङ्करिष्णुरचलो रोचिष्णुर्विक्रमोन्नतः ॥ ७७॥

alaṅkariṣṇur acalo rociṣṇur vikramonnataḥ || 77 ||

Alankarishnu (the adorner); Achala (the immovable); Rochishnu (the radiant); and Vikramonnata (exalted in valor).

आयुः शब्दपतिर्वाग्मी प्लवनः शिखिसारथिः ।

āyuḥ śabdapatir vāgmī plavanaḥ śikhisārathiḥ |

Ayu (life itself); Shabdapati (lord of sound); Vagmi (the eloquent); and Shikhisarathi (companion of the peacock, i.e. of Skanda).

असंसृष्टोऽतिथिः शत्रुप्रमाथी पादपासनः ॥ ७८॥

asaṃsṛṣṭo'tithiḥ śatrupramāthī pādapāsanaḥ || 78 ||

Asamsrishta (the unattached); Atithi (the guest); Shatrupramathi (crusher of foes); and Padapasana (seated beneath trees).

वसुश्रवाः कव्यवाहः प्रतप्तो विश्वभोजनः ।

Japya (worthy of silent recitation); Jaradishamana (pacifier of old age); Lohita (the red one); and Tanunapat (a name of fire).

Vrishadashva (having the bull as steed); Nabhoyoni (born of the sky); Supratika (of fair form); and Tamisraha (dispeller of darkness).

निदाघस्तपनो मेघभक्षः परपुरञ्जयः ॥ ८०॥

nidāghas tapano meghabhakṣaḥ parapurañjayaḥ || 80 ||

Nidagha (the summer heat); Tapana (the scorcher); Meghabhaksha (devourer of clouds); and Parapuranjaya (conqueror of enemy cities).

सुखानिलः सुनिष्पन्नः सुरभिः शिशिरात्मकः ।

sukhānilaḥ suniṣpannaḥ surabhiḥ śiśirātmakaḥ |

Sukhanila (the pleasant breeze); Sunishpanna (the well-accomplished); Surabhi (the fragrant); and Shishiratmaka (embodiment of winter).

वसन्तो माधवो ग्रीष्मो नभस्यो बीजवाहनः ॥ ८१॥

vasanto mādhavo grīṣmo nabhasyo bījavāhanaḥ || 81 ||

Vasanta (spring); Madhava (a name of spring); Grishma (summer); Nabhasya (the rainy month); and Bijavahana (bearer of seed).

अङ्गिरा गुरुरात्रेयो विमलो विश्वपावनः ।

aṅgirā gurur ātreyo vimalo viśvapāvanaḥ |

Angira; Guru; Atreya (son of Atri); Vimala (the spotless); and Vishvapavana (purifier of the universe).

पावनः पुरजिच्छक्रस्त्रैविद्यो वरवाहनः ॥ ८२॥

pāvanaḥ purajicchakras traividyo varavāhanaḥ || 82 ||

Pavana (the purifier); Purajit (conqueror of cities); Shakra (the mighty); Traividya (master of the three branches of knowledge); and Varavahana (of excellent mount).

मनो बुद्धिरहङ्कारः क्षेत्रज्ञः क्षेत्रपालकः ।

mano buddhir ahaṅkāraḥ kṣetrajñaḥ kṣetrapālakaḥ |

aghoro'nuttaro yajñaḥ śreyo niḥśreyasapradaḥ |

Aghora (the benign, not-terrible); Anuttara (unsurpassed); Yajna (the sacrifice itself); Shreya (the good); and Nihshreyasaprada (giver of the highest good).

शैलो गगनकुन्दाभो दानवारिररिन्दमः ॥ ८४॥

Mundi (the shaven-headed); Virupa (of strange form); Vikrita (the transformed); Dandi (bearer of the staff); Nadi (of the roaring sound); and Gunottama (foremost in virtue).

पिङ्गलाक्षो हि बह्वक्षो नीलग्रीवो निरामयः ॥ ८८॥

piṅgalākṣo hi bahvakṣo nīlagrīvo nirāmayaḥ || 88 ||

Pingalaksha (tawny-eyed); Bahvaksha (many-eyed); Nilagriva (blue-throated); and Niramaya (free of disease).

सहस्रबाहुः सर्वेशः शरण्यः सर्वलोकधृक् ।

Sahasrabahu (thousand-armed); Sarvesha (lord of all); Sharanya (the refuge); and Sarvalokadhrik (upholder of all worlds).

पद्मासनः परञ्ज्योतिः पारम्पर्यफलप्रदः ॥ ८९॥

padmāsanaḥ parañjyotiḥ pāramparyaphalapradaḥ || 89 ||

Padmasana (seated in the lotus posture); Paranjyoti (the supreme light); and Paramparyaphalaprada (giver of fruit across generations).

पद्मगर्भो महागर्भो विश्वगर्भो विचक्षणः ।

padmagarbho mahāgarbho viśvagarbho vicakṣaṇaḥ |

Padmagarbha (lotus-wombed); Mahagarbha (of great womb); Vishvagarbha (womb of the universe); and Vichakshana (the discerning).

परावरज्ञो वरदो वरेण्यश्च महास्वनः ॥ ९०॥

parāvarajño varado vareṇyaśca mahāsvanaḥ || 90 ||

Paravarajna (knower of the higher and lower); Varada (giver of boons); Varenya (worthy of choice); and Mahasvana (of great resounding voice).

देवासुरगुरुर्देवो देवासुरनमस्कृतः ।

devāsuragurur devo devāsuranamaskṛtaḥ |

Devasuraguru (teacher of gods and demons); Deva (the god); and Devasuranamaskrita (worshipped by gods and demons).

देवासुरमहामित्रो देवासुरमहेस्वरः ॥ ९१॥

devāsuramahāmitro devāsuramaheśvaraḥ || 91 ||

Devasuramahamitra (great friend of gods and demons); and Devasuramaheshvara (great lord of gods and demons).

Vibudhagrachara (foremost among the wise); Shreshtha (the best); and Sarvadevottamottama (best of the best among all gods).

शिवज्ञानरतः श्रीमान् शिखी श्रीपर्वतप्रियः ।

śivajñānarataḥ śrīmān śikhī śrīparvatapriyaḥ |

Shivajnanarata (delighting in the knowledge of Shiva); Shriman (glorious); Shikhi (flame-crested); and Shriparvatapriya (fond of Sri Parvata).

वज्रहस्तः सिद्धखड्गो नरसिंहनिपातनः ॥ ९४॥

vajrahastaḥ siddhakhaḍgo narasiṃhanipātanaḥ || 94 ||

Vajrahasta (thunderbolt in hand); Siddhakhadga (of the perfected sword); and Narasimhanipatana (feller of Narasimha).

ब्रह्मचारी लोकचारी धर्मचारी धनाधिपः ।

brahmacārī lokacārī dharmacārī dhanādhipaḥ |

Brahmachari (the celibate practitioner); Lokachari (wanderer of the worlds); Dharmachari (follower of dharma); and Dhanadhipa (lord of wealth).

नन्दी नन्दीश्वरोऽनन्तो नग्नव्रतधरः शुचिः ॥ ९५॥

nandī nandīśvaro'nanto nagnavratadharaḥ śuciḥ || 95 ||

Nandi; Nandishvara (lord of Nandi); Ananta (the infinite); Nagnavratadhara (bearer of the ascetic's naked vow); and Shuchi (the pure).

लिङ्गाध्यक्षः सुराध्यक्षो युगाध्यक्षो युगापहः ।

Lingadhyaksha (overseer of the linga); Suradhyaksha (overseer of the gods); Yugadhyaksha (overseer of the ages); and Yugapaha (remover of the ages).

स्वधामा स्वगतः स्वर्गी स्वरः स्वरमयः स्वनः ॥ ९६॥

svadhāmā svagataḥ svargī svaraḥ svaramayaḥ svanaḥ || 96 ||

Banadhyaksha (overseer of arrows); Bijakarta (creator of seed); Karmakrit (doer of deeds); and Dharmasambhava (arising from dharma).

दम्भो लोभोऽथ वै शम्भुः सर्वभूतमहेश्वरः ॥ ९७॥

dambho lobho'tha vai śambhuḥ sarvabhūtamaheśvaraḥ || 97 ||

Dambha and Lobha (pride and greed, forms he embodies to be transcended); Shambhu (source of bliss); and Sarvabhutamaheshvara (great lord of all beings).

श्मशाननिलयस्त्र्यक्षः सेतुरप्रतिमाकृतिः ।

śmaśānanilayas tryakṣaḥ setur apratimākṛtiḥ |

Shmashananilaya (dweller of the cremation ground); Tryaksha (three-eyed); Setu (the bridge); and Apratimakriti (of matchless form).

लोकोत्तरस्फुटो लोकस्त्र्यम्बको नागभूषणः ॥ ९८॥

lokottarasphuṭo lokas tryambako nāgabhūṣaṇaḥ || 98 ||

Lokottaraphuta (manifest beyond the world); Loka (the world itself); Tryambaka (three-eyed); and Nagabhushana (adorned with serpents).

अन्धकारिर्मखद्वेषी विष्णुकन्धरपातनः ।

andhakārir makhadveṣī viṣṇukandharapātanaḥ |

Andhakari (slayer of the demon Andhaka); Makhadveshi (foe of the sacrifice, referring to Daksha's yajna); and Vishnukandharapatana (feller of Vishnu's shoulder).

पूर्णः पूरयिता पुण्यः सुकुमारः सुलोचनः ।

pūrṇaḥ pūrayitā puṇyaḥ sukumāraḥ sulocanaḥ |

Purna (the complete); Purayita (the fulfiller); Punya (the meritorious); Sukumara (the gentle); and Sulochana (the beautiful-eyed).

सन्मार्गपः प्रियोऽधूर्तः पुण्यकीर्तिरनामयः ॥ १०१॥

sanmārgapaḥ priyo'dhūrtaḥ puṇyakīrtir anāmayaḥ || 101 ||

Sanmargapa (protector of the right path); Priya (the beloved); Adhurta (guileless); Punyakirti (of virtuous fame); and Anamaya (free of ailment).

Manojava (swift as thought); Tirthakara (maker of holy fords); Jatila (matted-locked); and Niyameshvara (lord of discipline).

जीवितान्तकरो नित्यो वसुरेता वसुप्रदः ॥ १०२॥

jīvitāntakaro nityo vasuretā vasupradaḥ || 102 ||

Jivitantakara (bringer of life's end); Nitya (the eternal); Vasureta (of golden vital essence); and Vasuprada (giver of wealth).

सद्गतिः सिद्धिदः सिद्धिः सज्जातिः खलकण्टकः ।

Tejomaya (made of radiance); Dyutidhara (bearer of splendor); Lokamani (honored by the world); and Ghrinarnava (ocean of compassion).

शुचिस्मितः प्रसन्नात्मा ह्यजेयो दुरतिक्रमः ॥ १०६॥

śucismitaḥ prasannātmā hyajeyo duratikramaḥ || 106 ||

निर्ममो निरहङ्कारो निर्मोहो निरुपद्रवः ।

nirmamo nirahaṅkāro nirmoho nirupadravaḥ |

Nirmama (free of possessiveness); Nirahankara (free of ego); Nirmoha (free of delusion); and Nirupadrava (free of disturbance).

दर्पहा दर्पदो दृप्तः सर्वार्थपरिवर्तकः ॥ ११३॥

darpahā darpado dṛptaḥ sarvārthaparivartakaḥ || 113 ||

Darpaha (destroyer of pride); Darpada (giver of vigor); Dripta (the exuberant); and Sarvarthaparivartaka (transformer of all meaning).

सहस्रार्चिर्भूतिभूषः स्निग्धाकृतिरदक्षिणः ।

sahasrārcir bhūtibhūṣaḥ snigdhākṛtir adakṣiṇaḥ |

Sahasrarchi (of a thousand rays); Bhutibhusha (adorned with ash); Snigdhakriti (of gentle form); and Adakshina (needing no offering).

भूतभव्यभवन्नाथो विभवो भूतिनाशनः ॥ ११४॥

bhūtabhavyabhavannātho vibhavo bhūtināśanaḥ || 114 ||

Bhutabhavyabhavannatha (lord of what was, will be and is); Vibhava (glory); and Bhutinashana (destroyer of worldly prosperity's hold).

अर्थोऽनर्थो महाकोशः परकार्यैकपण्डितः ।

artho'nartho mahākośaḥ parakāryaikapaṇḍitaḥ |

Artha and Anartha (meaning and its absence); Mahakosha (great treasury); and Parakaryaikapandita (sole expert in others' affairs).

निष्कण्टकः कृतानन्दो निर्व्याजो व्याजमर्दनः ॥ ११५॥

niṣkaṇṭakaḥ kṛtānando nirvyājo vyājamardanaḥ || 115 ||

Nishkantaka (thornless); Kritananda (author of bliss); Nirvyaja (without pretense); and Vyajamardana (crusher of pretense).

सत्त्ववान् सात्त्विकः सत्यः कृतस्नेहः कृतागमः ।

sattvavān sāttvikaḥ satyaḥ kṛtasnehaḥ kṛtāgamaḥ |

Sattvavan (possessing goodness); Sattvika (of pure quality); Satya (the true); Kritasneha (loving); and Kritagama (author of scripture).

अकम्पितो गुणग्राही नैकात्मा नैककर्मकृत् ॥ ११६॥

akampito guṇagrāhī naikātmā naikakarmakṛt || 116 ||

Akampita (unshaken); Gunagrahi (perceiver of virtues); Naikatma (of manifold selves); and Naikakarmakrit (doer of manifold deeds).

सुप्रीतः सुखदः सूक्ष्मः सुकरो दक्षिणानिलः ।

suprītaḥ sukhadaḥ sūkṣmaḥ sukaro dakṣiṇānilaḥ |

Suprita (well-pleased); Sukhada (giver of happiness); Sukshma (the subtle); Sukara (the good doer); and Dakshinanila (the southern breeze).

नन्दिस्कन्दो धरो धुर्यः प्रकटप्रीतिवर्धनः ॥ ११७॥

nandiskando dharo dhuryaḥ prakaṭaprītivardhanaḥ || 117 ||

Nandiskanda (father of Nandi and Skanda); Dhara (the sustainer); Dhurya (the foremost); and Prakataprītivardhana (increaser of manifest love).

अपराजितः सर्वसहो गोविन्दः सत्ववाहनः ।

aparājitaḥ sarvasaho govindaḥ sattvavāhanaḥ |

Aparajita (unconquered); Sarvasaha (enduring all); Govinda (finder of the earth); and Sattvavahana (borne by goodness).

अधृतः स्वधृतः सिद्धः पूतमूर्तिर्यशोधनः ॥ ११८॥

adhṛtaḥ svadhṛtaḥ siddhaḥ pūtamūrtir yaśodhanaḥ || 118 ||

Adhrita (self-existing); Svadhrita (self-sustained); Siddha (the accomplished); Putamurti (of pure form); and Yashodhana (whose wealth is fame).

वाराहश‍ृङ्गधृक् श‍ृङ्गी बलवानेकनायकः ।

vārāhaśṛṅgadhṛk śṛṅgī balavān ekanāyakaḥ |

Varahashringadhrik (bearer of the boar's horn); Shringi (the horned one); Balavan (the strong); and Ekanayaka (sole leader).

श‍ृतिप्रकाशः श्रुतिमानेकबन्धुरनेकधृक् ॥ ११९॥

śrutiprakāśaḥ śrutimān ekabandhur anekadhṛk || 119 ||

Shrutiprakasha (illuminator of scripture); Shrutiman (learned in scripture); Ekabandhu (kinsman to all); and Anekadhrik (bearer of many forms).

श्रीवत्सलः शिवारम्भः शान्तभद्रः समो यशः ।

śrīvatsalaḥ śivārambhaḥ śāntabhadraḥ samo yaśaḥ |

Shrivatsala (fond of glory); Shivarambha (the beginning of auspiciousness); Shantabhadra (peacefully gracious); Sama (the equanimous); and Yasha (fame).

भूयशो भूषणो भूतिर्भूतिकृद् भूतभावनः ॥ १२०॥

bhūyaśo bhūṣaṇo bhūtir bhūtikṛd bhūtabhāvanaḥ || 120 ||

Bhuyasha (of abundant fame); Bhushana (the ornament); Bhuti (prosperity); Bhutikrit (bestower of prosperity); and Bhutabhavana (creator of beings).

अकम्पो भक्तिकायस्तु कालहानिः कलाविभुः ।

akampo bhaktikāyastu kālahāniḥ kalāvibhuḥ |

Akampa (the unshaken); Bhaktikaya (whose body is devotion); Kalahani (diminisher of time); and Kalavibhu (lord of the arts).

सत्यव्रती महात्यागी नित्यः शान्तिपरायणः ॥ १२१॥

satyavratī mahātyāgī nityaḥ śāntiparāyaṇaḥ || 121 ||

Satyavrati (true to vows); Mahatyagi (of great renunciation); Nitya (the eternal); and Shantiparayana (devoted to peace).

परार्थवृत्तिर्वरदो विरक्तस्तु विशारदः ।

parārthavṛttir varado viraktastu viśāradaḥ |

Pararthavritti (living for others' good); Varada (giver of boons); Virakta (the detached); and Visharada (the learned).

शुभदः शुभकर्ता च शुभनामा शुभः स्वयम् ॥ १२२॥

śubhadaḥ śubhakartā ca śubhanāmā śubhaḥ svayam || 122 ||

Shubhada (giver of auspiciousness); Shubhakarta (doer of auspicious deeds); Shubhanama (of auspicious name); and Shubha (auspicious himself).

अनर्थितो गुणग्राही ह्यकर्ता कनकप्रभः ।

anarthito guṇagrāhī hyakartā kanakaprabhaḥ |

Anarthita (desireless); Gunagrahi (perceiver of virtues); Akarta (the non-doer); and Kanakaprabha (golden-radiant).

स्वभावभद्रो मध्यस्थः शत्रुघ्नो विघ्ननाशनः ॥ १२३॥

svabhāvabhadro madhyasthaḥ śatrughno vighnanāśanaḥ || 123 ||

Svabhavabhadra (inherently gracious); Madhyastha (the impartial); Shatrughna (slayer of enemies); and Vighnanashana (destroyer of obstacles).

शिखण्डी कवची शूली जटी मुण्डी च कुण्डली ।

śikhaṇḍī kavacī śūlī jaṭī muṇḍī ca kuṇḍalī |

Shikhandi (crested); Kavachi (armored); Shuli (trident-bearer); Jati (matted-locked); Mundi (shaven-headed); and Kundali (earring-wearer).

अमृत्युः सर्वदृक् सिंहस्तेजोराशिर्महामणिः ॥ १२४॥

amṛtyuḥ sarvadṛk siṃhas tejorāśir mahāmaṇiḥ || 124 ||

Amrityu (deathless); Sarvadrik (all-seeing); Simha (the lion); Tejorashi (mass of radiance); and Mahamani (the great jewel).

असङ्ख्येयोऽप्रमेयात्मा वीर्यवान् वीर्यकोविदः ।

asaṅkhyeyo'prameyātmā vīryavān vīryakovidaḥ |

Asankhyeya (innumerable); Aprameyatma (of immeasurable self); Viryavan (of valor); and Viryakovida (skilled in valor).

वेद्यश्च वै वियोगात्मा परावरमुनीश्वरः ॥ १२५॥

vedyaśca vai viyogātmā parāvaramunīśvaraḥ || 125 ||

Vedya (the knowable); Viyogatma (of detached self); and Paravaramunishvara (lord of sages high and low).

अनुत्तमो दुराधर्षो मधुरः प्रियदर्शनः ।

anuttamo durādharṣo madhuraḥ priyadarśanaḥ |

Anuttama (unsurpassed); Duradharsha (unassailable); Madhura (sweet); and Priyadarshana (pleasant to behold).

सुरेशः शरणः सर्वः शब्दः प्रतपतां वरः ॥ १२६॥

sureśaḥ śaraṇaḥ sarvaḥ śabdaḥ pratapatāṃ varaḥ || 126 ||

Suresha (lord of the gods); Sharana (the refuge); Sarva (the all); Shabda (sound); and Pratapatamvara (foremost among the radiant).

कालपक्षः कालकालः सुकृती कृतवासुकिः ।

kālapakṣaḥ kālakālaḥ sukṛtī kṛtavāsukiḥ |

Kalapaksha (of time's phase); Kalakala (death of death); Sukriti (of good deeds); and Kritavasuki (befriended by Vasuki).

महेष्वासो महीभर्ता निष्कलङ्को विश‍ृङ्खलः ॥ १२७॥

maheṣvāso mahībhartā niṣkalaṅko viśṛṅkhalaḥ || 127 ||

Maheshvasa (of the great bow); Mahibharta (sustainer of the earth); Nishkalanka (spotless); and Vishrinkhala (unchained, free).

द्युमणिस्तरणिर्धन्यः सिद्धिदः सिद्धिसाधनः ।

dyumaṇis taraṇir dhanyaḥ siddhidaḥ siddhisādhanaḥ |

Dyumani and Tarani (the sun); Dhanya (the blessed); Siddhida (giver of accomplishment); and Siddhisadhana (means of accomplishment).

विश्वतः सम्प्रवृत्तस्तु व्यूढोरस्को महाभुजः ॥ १२८॥

viśvataḥ sampravṛttastu vyūḍhorasko mahābhujaḥ || 128 ||

Vishvatahsampravritta (active throughout the universe); Vyudhoraska (broad-chested); and Mahabhuja (mighty-armed).

सर्वयोनिर्निराटङ्को नरनारायणप्रियः ।

sarvayonir nirāṭaṅko naranārāyaṇapriyaḥ |

Sarvayoni (source of all); Niratanka (fearless); and Naranarayanapriya (dear to Nara and Narayana).

निर्लेपो यतिसङ्गात्मा निर्व्यङ्गो व्यङ्गनाशनः ॥ १२९॥

nirlepo yatisaṅgātmā nirvyaṅgo vyaṅganāśanaḥ || 129 ||

Nirlepa (unstained); Yatisangatma (whose being is companionship with ascetics); Nirvyanga (flawless); and Vyanganashana (destroyer of blemish).

स्तव्यः स्तवप्रियः स्तोता व्यासमूर्तिर्निराकुलः ।

stavyaḥ stavapriyaḥ stotā vyāsamūrtir nirākulaḥ |

Stavya (worthy of praise); Stavapriya (fond of praise); Stota (the praiser); Vyasamurti (of the form of Vyasa); and Nirakula (untroubled).

निरवद्यमयोपायो विद्याराशिश्च सत्कृतः ॥ १३०॥

niravadyamayopāyo vidyārāśiśca satkṛtaḥ || 130 ||

Niravadyamayopaya (of blameless means); Vidyarashi (mass of knowledge); and Satkrita (well-honored).

प्रशान्तबुद्धिरक्षुण्णः सङ्ग्रहो नित्यसुन्दरः ।

praśāntabuddhir akṣuṇṇaḥ saṅgraho nityasundaraḥ |

Prashantabuddhi (of tranquil mind); Akshunna (unbroken); Sangraha (the gatherer); and Nityasundara (ever beautiful).

वैयाघ्रधुर्यो धात्रीशः सङ्कल्पः शर्वरीपतिः ॥ १३१॥

vaiyāghradhuryo dhātrīśaḥ saṅkalpaḥ śarvarīpatiḥ || 131 ||

Vaiyaghradhurya (foremost in the tiger-hide); Dhatrisha (lord of the earth); Sankalpa (resolve); and Sharvaripati (lord of the night).

परमार्थगुरुर्दत्तः सूरिराश्रितवत्सलः ।

paramārthagurur dattaḥ sūrir āśritavatsalaḥ |

Paramarthaguru (teacher of ultimate truth); Datta (the self-given); Suri (the wise); and Ashritavatsala (affectionate to those who take refuge).

सोमो रसज्ञो रसदः सर्वसत्वावलम्बनः ॥ १३२॥

somo rasajño rasadaḥ sarvasattvāvalambanaḥ || 132 ||

Soma; Rasajna (knower of essence); Rasada (giver of essence); and Sarvasattvavalambana (support of all beings).

एवं नाम्नां सहस्रेण तुष्टाव हि हरं हरिः ।

evaṃ nāmnāṃ sahasreṇa tuṣṭāva hi haraṃ hariḥ |

Thus with these thousand names did Hari (Vishnu) praise Hara (Shiva);

प्रार्थयामास शम्भुं वै पूजयामास पङ्कजैः ॥ १३३॥

prārthayāmāsa śambhuṃ vai pūjayāmāsa paṅkajaiḥ || 133 ||

he entreated Shambhu, and worshipped him with lotus flowers.

ततः स कौतुकी शम्भुश्चकार चरितं द्विजाः ।

tataḥ sa kautukī śambhuś cakāra caritaṃ dvijāḥ |

Then Shambhu, delighted, O twice-born ones, performed a deed —

महद्भूतं सुखकरं तदेव श‍ृणुतादरात् ॥ १३४॥

mahadbhutaṃ sukhakaraṃ tadeva śṛṇutādarāt || 134 ||

a great and wondrous, joy-bringing deed — listen to it now with reverence.
