auganahāra kī benatī suno garība nivāja| je maiṃ pūta kapūta hū~, merī bahuḍa़ pitā ko lāja||

Listen, O Cherisher of the humble, to this flawed one's petition. Even though I am an unworthy son, it remains a father's honor to protect his son's good name.

nahīṃ vidyā nahīṃ bāhu bala nahīṃ kharacana ko dāma| 'tulasī' mo sama patita kī pata rākho śrī rāma||

I have no learning, no strength of arm, no wealth to spend. Tulsidas says: O Shri Ram, preserve the honor of a fallen soul like me.

avasara rākhī dropadā saṃkaṭa jyoṃ prahalāda| kahana sunana kī kachu nahīṃ, śaraṇa paḍa़e kī lāja||

You protected Draupadi in her hour of need, just as You saved Prahlad from danger. There is nothing more to argue — it is Your honor to protect one who has taken refuge in You.

Keep the Guru always above your head, and walk within His command. Kabir says: such a servant fears nothing in all three worlds.

When the all-capable Guru Himself stands as protector above you, what could His servant ever lack? Prosperity and spiritual powers serve Him, and liberation never leaves His side.

je maiṃ bhula bigāḍa़iyā svāmī na kara mailā citta| sāhiba gaurā loḍa़ie napha़ra bigāḍa़e nita||

If I have erred and gone wrong through mistake, O Master, let it not sully Your heart. A great Master ought to be magnanimous, for a servant is bound to err again and again.

Full of hope I stand at Your door; even if my Master gives me no shelter now, I will not leave this court — perhaps my Lord will yet show mercy.

kyā mukha le vinatī karū~, lāja āvata hai mohe| tuma dekhata avaguṇa karū~, maiṃ kaise bhāūṃ tohe||

With what face can I even make this plea — I feel ashamed. I commit faults right before Your eyes; how then could I ever please You?

guru govinda donoṃ khaḍa़e kisake lāgūṃ pāya| balihārī sadguru āpane jina mārga diyo lakhāe||

If Guru and Govind both stood before me, whose feet should I touch first? I offer myself to my true Guru, who showed me the path.

Offer full prostration to the Guru — my countless salutations to Him. Just as the humble insect, though it does not know the wasp, is transformed into its likeness, so does the Guru make His servant like Himself.

lekhe ginata na chūṭie china-china bhūlanahāra| bakhśānahāra bakhśā lai, 'nānaka' pāra utāra||

If every fault were counted, none could ever be freed, for we err moment by moment. O Forgiving One, forgive me; Nanak prays: carry me across.

sataguru nāma jahāja hai caḍha़e so utare pāra| jo śraddhā kara saṃvade, svāmī pāra utārana hāra||

The Name of the true Guru is a ship — whoever boards it reaches the far shore. Whoever holds to it with faith, the Master is sure to carry across.

śrī guru mahārāja kī mahimā mo se kahī na jāye| mahābalī avatāra hai jala thala rahayo samāye||

The glory of the revered Guru Maharaj is beyond my power to describe. He is a mighty incarnation, pervading both water and land.

sataguru merā sūramā kare śabda kī coṭa| māre golā prema kā ḍhāye bhrama kā koṭa||

My true Guru is a warrior who strikes with the blow of the Word. He fires the cannonball of love and brings down the fortress of illusion.

phirata-phirata prabhu āyoṃ paḍa़yo tohe śaraṇāe| 'nānaka' kī prabhu benatī apanī bhakti lāe||

Wandering from place to place, O Lord, I have finally come and fallen at Your refuge. This is Nanak's prayer: O Lord, grant me devotion unto You.

bhakti-dāna mohe dījie, guru devana ke deva| aura kachu na cāhie niśa dina tumarī seva||

Grant me the gift of devotion, O Guru, God of gods. I want nothing else but to serve You day and night.

guru mūrti gati candramā sevaka naina cakora| aṣṭa pahara nirakhata rahū~ guru mūrti kī ora||

The Guru's form is like the moon, and the devotee's eyes are the chakor bird gazing upon it. May I keep my eyes fixed on the Guru's form through all eight watches of day and night.

pāra brahā parameśvara pūrṇa saccidānanda| namaskāra prabhu āpako saba saṃtana ke aṃga saṃga||

You are the Supreme Brahman, the Supreme Lord, the fullness of Being-Consciousness-Bliss. Salutations to You, O Lord, who abide with and within all saints.

māta-pitā sataguru mere maiṃ śaraṇa jāū~ jisakī| guru bina aura na dūsarā maiṃ āsa karū~ kisakī||

My true Guru is both mother and father to me; it is His refuge alone I seek. There is no other besides the Guru — in whom else could I place my hope?

jaikara

jaikārā nistārā dharma kā dvārā, jhūlegī dhvajā bajegā nagāḍa़ā| sunakara bole so nirbhaya, bola mere śrī guru mahārāja kī jai||

This jaikara is the gateway to liberation through dharma; the banner shall wave and the drum shall sound. Whoever hears and echoes it becomes fearless — proclaim: Victory to my revered Guru Maharaj!
