ह्रीं श्रीं क्लीं मेधा प्रभा जीवन ज्योति प्रचण्ड । शान्ति कान्ति जागृत प्रगति रचना शक्ति अखण्ड ॥

hrīṃ śrīṃ klīṃ medhā prabhā jīvana jyoti pracaṇḍa | śānti kānti jāgṛta pragati racanā śakti akhaṇḍa ||

Hrim, Shrim, Klim — the mighty light of intellect, radiance and life; peace, splendour, awakening, progress, the unbroken power of creation.

जगत जननी मङ्गल करनिं गायत्री सुखधाम । प्रणवों सावित्री स्वधा स्वाहा पूरन काम ॥

jagata jananī maṅgala karaniṃ gāyatrī sukhadhāma | praṇavoṃ sāvitrī svadhā svāhā pūrana kāma ||

Mother of the world, worker of good, Gayatri, abode of happiness; Pranava, Savitri, Svadha, Svaha, fulfiller of every wish.

भूर्भुवः स्वः ॐ युत जननी । गायत्री नित कलिमल दहनी ॥

bhūrbhuvaḥ svaḥ oṃ yuta jananī | gāyatrī nita kalimala dahanī ||

Mother joined with Bhur, Bhuvah, Svah and Om; Gayatri, ever burning away the stain of the Kali age.

अक्षर चौविस परम पुनीता । इनमें बसें शास्त्र श्रुति गीता ॥

akṣara cauvisa parama punītā | inameṃ baseṃ śāstra śruti gītā ||

Her twenty-four syllables are supremely sacred; within them dwell the scriptures, the Shrutis, the Gita.

शाश्वत सतोगुणी सत रूपा । सत्य सनातन सुधा अनूपा । हंसारूढ सितंबर धारी । स्वर्ण कान्ति शुचि गगन-बिहारी ॥

śāśvata satoguṇī sata rūpā | satya sanātana sudhā anūpā | haṃsārūḍha sitaṃbara dhārī | svarṇa kānti śuci gagana-bihārī ||

Eternal, of the pure quality of sattva, whose form is truth; true, everlasting, of incomparable nectar; mounted on a swan, clad in white; of golden radiance, pure, wandering the sky.

पुस्तक पुष्प कमण्डलु माला । शुभ्र वर्ण तनु नयन विशाला ॥

pustaka puṣpa kamaṇḍalu mālā | śubhra varṇa tanu nayana viśālā ||

A book, a flower, a water-pot, a rosary in her hands; of radiant white body, with wide eyes.

ध्यान धरत पुलकित हित होई । सुख उपजत दुःख दुर्मति खोई ॥

dhyāna dharata pulakita hita ho_ī | sukha upajata duḥkha durmati kho_ī ||

Holding her in meditation, the heart thrills with joy; happiness arises, and sorrow and ill-thought are lost.

कामधेनु तुम सुर तरु छाया । निराकार की अद्भुत माया ॥

kāmadhenu tuma sura taru chāyā | nirākāra kī adbhuta māyā ||

You are the wish-granting cow, the shade of the celestial tree; the wondrous maya of the formless One.

तुम्हरी शरण गहै जो कोई । तरै सकल संकट सों सोई ॥

tumharī śaraṇa gahai jo ko_ī | tarai sakala saṃkaṭa soṃ so_ī ||

Whoever takes refuge in you crosses over every trouble.

सरस्वती लक्ष्मी तुम काली । दिपै तुम्हारी ज्योति निराली ॥

sarasvatī lakṣmī tuma kālī | dipai tumhārī jyoti nirālī ||

You are Saraswati, Lakshmi, Kali; your light shines uniquely.

तुम्हरी महिमा पार न पावैं । जो शारद शत मुख गुन गावैं ॥

tumharī mahimā pāra na pāvaiṃ | jo śārada śata mukha guna gāvaiṃ ||

None can reach the end of your glory, though Sharada sing your virtues with a hundred mouths.

चार वेद की मात पुनीता । तुम ब्रह्माणी गौरी सीता ॥

cāra veda kī māta punītā | tuma brahmāṇī gaurī sītā ||

Sacred mother of the four Vedas; you are Brahmani, Gauri, Sita.

महामन्त्र जितने जग माहीं । कोई गायत्री सम नाहीं ॥

mahāmantra jitane jaga māhīṃ | ko_ī gāyatrī sama nāhīṃ ||

Of all the great mantras in the world, none equals Gayatri.

सुमिरत हिय में ज्ञान प्रकासै । आलस पाप अविद्या नासै ॥

sumirata hiya meṃ jñāna prakāsai | ālasa pāpa avidyā nāsai ||

Remembering you, knowledge shines within the heart; laziness, sin and ignorance are destroyed.

सृष्टि बीज जग जननि भवानी । कालरात्रि वरदा कल्याणी ॥

sṛṣṭi bīja jaga janani bhavānī | kālarātri varadā kalyāṇī ||

Seed of creation, mother of the world, Bhavani; Kalaratri, giver of boons, auspicious one.

ब्रह्मा विष्णु रुद्र सुर जेते । तुम सों पावें सुरता तेते ॥

brahmā viṣṇu rudra sura jete | tuma soṃ pāveṃ suratā tete ||

Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra and all the gods gain their awareness from you.

तुम भक्तन की भकत तुम्हारे । जननिहिं पुत्र प्राण ते प्यारे ॥

tuma bhaktana kī bhakata tumhāre | jananihiṃ putra prāṇa te pyāre ||

You belong to your devotees, and your devotees are yours; dearer to a mother than her own son's life.

महिमा अपरम्पार तुम्हारी । जय जय जय त्रिपदा भयहारी ॥

mahimā aparampāra tumhārī | jaya jaya jaya tripadā bhayahārī ||

Your glory is boundless; victory, victory, victory, Tripada, remover of fear.

पूरित सकल ज्ञान विज्ञाना । तुम सम अधिक न जगमे आना ॥

pūrita sakala jñāna vijñānā | tuma sama adhika na jagame ānā ||

Filled with all knowledge and science; none greater than you has come into this world.

तुमहिं जानि कछु रहै न शेषा । तुमहिं पाय कछु रहै न कलेसा ॥

tumahiṃ jāni kachu rahai na śeṣā | tumahiṃ pāya kachu rahai na kalesā ||

Knowing you, nothing remains unknown; attaining you, no affliction remains.

जानत तुमहिं तुमहिं है जाई । पारस परसि कुधातु सुहाई ॥

jānata tumahiṃ tumahiṃ hai jā_ī | pārasa parasi kudhātu suhā_ī ||

Knowing you, one becomes you; as base metal, touched by the philosopher's stone, turns to gold.

तुम्हरी शक्ति दिपै सब ठाई । माता तुम सब ठौर समाई ॥

tumharī śakti dipai saba ṭhā_ī | mātā tuma saba ṭhaura samā_ī ||

Your power shines in every place; O Mother, you pervade all locations.

ग्रह नक्षत्र ब्रह्माण्ड घनेरे । सब गतिवान तुम्हारे प्रेरे ॥

graha nakṣatra brahmāṇḍa ghanere | saba gativāna tumhāre prere ||

The planets, stars, countless universes — all move, set in motion by you.

सकल सृष्टि की प्राण विधाता । पालक पोषक नाशक त्राता ॥

sakala sṛṣṭi kī prāṇa vidhātā | pālaka poṣaka nāśaka trātā ||

Ordainer of the life-breath of all creation; sustainer, nourisher, destroyer, protector.

मातेश्वरी दया व्रत धारी । तुम सन तरे पातकी भारी ॥

māteśvarī dayā vrata dhārī | tuma sana tare pātakī bhārī ||

Sovereign Mother, holder of the vow of compassion; through you even the gravest sinners cross over.

जापर कृपा तुम्हारी होई । तापर कृपा करें सब कोई ॥

jāpara kṛpā tumhārī ho_ī | tāpara kṛpā kareṃ saba ko_ī ||

Upon whomever your grace falls, everyone else shows grace too.

मंद बुद्धि ते बुधि बल पावें । रोगी रोग रहित हो जावें ॥

maṃda buddhi te budhi bala pāveṃ | rogī roga rahita ho jāveṃ ||

The dull-witted gain strength of intellect; the sick become free of disease.

दरिद्र मिटै कटै सब पीरा । नाशै दूःख हरै भव भीरा ॥

daridra miṭai kaṭai saba pīrā | nāśai dūḥkha harai bhava bhīrā ||

Poverty is erased, every pain is cut away; sorrow is destroyed, worldly dread is removed.

गृह क्लेश चित चिन्ता भारी । नासै गायत्री भय हारी ॥

gṛha kleśa cita cintā bhārī | nāsai gāyatrī bhaya hārī ||

Domestic strife and heavy mental worry — Gayatri, remover of fear, destroys them.

सन्तति हीन सुसन्तति पावें । सुख संपति युत मोद मनावें ॥

santati hīna susantati pāveṃ | sukha saṃpati yuta moda manāveṃ ||

The childless obtain good children; they celebrate joyfully with happiness and prosperity.

भूत पिशाच सबै भय खावें । यम के दूत निकट नहिं आवें ॥

bhūta piśāca sabai bhaya khāveṃ | yama ke dūta nikaṭa nahiṃ āveṃ ||

Ghosts and evil spirits are all struck with fear; the messengers of Yama do not come near.

जे सधवा सुमिरें चित ठाई । अछत सुहाग सदा शुबदाई ॥

je sadhavā sumireṃ cita ṭhā_ī | achata suhāga sadā śubadā_ī ||

Married women who remember you with a steady mind keep their marital happiness ever auspicious.

घर वर सुख प्रद लहैं कुमारी । विधवा रहें सत्य व्रत धारी ॥

ghara vara sukha prada lahaiṃ kumārī | vidhavā raheṃ satya vrata dhārī ||

Unmarried girls attain a good household and husband; widows remain steadfast in truthful vows.

जयति जयति जगदंब भवानी । तुम सम थोर दयालु न दानी ॥

jayati jayati jagadaṃba bhavānī | tuma sama thora dayālu na dānī ||

Victory, victory, Jagadamba Bhavani; none is as compassionate or generous as you.

जो सद्गुरु सो दीक्षा पावे । सो साधन को सफल बनावे ॥

jo sadguru so dīkṣā pāve | so sādhana ko saphala banāve ||

Whoever receives initiation from a true guru makes their spiritual practice succeed.

सुमिरन करे सुरूयि बडभागी । लहै मनोरथ गृही विरागी ॥

sumirana kare surūyi baḍabhāgī | lahai manoratha gṛhī virāgī ||

The fortunate one who remembers you well attains their heart's desire, be they householder or renunciate.

अष्ट सिद्धि नवनिधि की दाता । सब समर्थ गायत्री माता ॥

aṣṭa siddhi navanidhi kī dātā | saba samartha gāyatrī mātā ||

Giver of the eight siddhis and the nine treasures; all-powerful Mother Gayatri.

ऋषि मुनि यती तपस्वी योगी । आरत अर्थी चिन्तित भोगी ॥

ṛṣi muni yatī tapasvī yogī | ārata arthī cintita bhogī ||

Sages, ascetics, renunciants, tapasvis, yogis; the distressed, the seekers of wealth, the anxious, the pleasure-seekers —

जो जो शरण तुम्हारी आवें । सो सो मन वांछित फल पावें ॥

jo jo śaraṇa tumhārī āveṃ | so so mana vāṃchita phala pāveṃ ||

whoever comes to your refuge obtains the fruit their heart desires.

बल बुधि विद्या शील स्वभाओ । धन वैभव यश तेज उछाओ ॥

bala budhi vidyā śīla svabhā_o | dhana vaibhava yaśa teja uchā_o ||

Strength, intellect, learning, good character and nature; wealth, splendour, fame, radiance and vigor —

सकल बढें उपजें सुख नाना । जे यह पाठ करै धरि ध्याना ॥

sakala baḍheṃ upajeṃ sukha nānā | je yaha pāṭha karai dhari dhyānā ||

all increase, and manifold joys arise, for whoever recites this with focused meditation.

यह चालीसा भक्ति युत पाठ करै जो कोई । तापर कृपा प्रसन्नता गायत्री की होय ॥

yaha cālīsā bhakti yuta pāṭha karai jo ko_ī | tāpara kṛpā prasannatā gāyatrī kī hoya ||

Whoever recites this Chalisa with devotion, upon them falls the grace and pleasure of Gayatri.
